Well, let's be clear. The Galaxy Tab was a disaster.
The Xoom is no doubt a great piece of hardware, and it sounds like Honeycomb has taken care of a lot of my annoyances with Android and brought it at least kind of close to iOS. I plan on going to Best Buy today or tomorrow to play around with it.
I just don't think comparisons should be made between the iPad 1 and the Xoom as far as speed goes.
Everything else is fair game.
The main reason I wouldn't buy an Android phone or tablet is the applications. My friend has a Droid X, and far as I can tell, the applications ****ing suck. Not just they aren't up to par with iOS, they just flat out blow. The best applications on Android almost all started on iOS.
All of my friends games (except the ones from iOS) look like ****** flash games from the early 2000's ported over to the phone. To this day, the applications on the Android market are just generally of a much, much lower quality than even mediocre iOS apps.
I'm not sure if this will carry over onto the tablets, but as far as I'm concerned, the Android market is in worse shape as far as quality apps goes than the iTunes App Store was when it launched. And, the tablet marketplace is pretty much non-existant at this point, obviously a terrible way to launch given what was available for the iPad at launch.
Faster browser? Faster videos? GMail integration? Who cares?
Wrong. I don't have one in my hands, so cut the melodramatics. I am more than capable of reading and watching things and drawing conclusions from that. I can see quite clearly that it doesn't look nice at all, is bulky, and has (IMO) a poor, overly-complex interface with too many options for the casual user. As for what else it fails on...no flash support despite the boasting, HDMI port can't be used without spending a load more cash on a dock, SD card slot is not yet active, can't get one without a data plan, media syncing is poor...should I go on?Why dont you tell me what ELSE it fails on since you have one in your hands right now?? Ill wait...
Do you know pathetic that kind of answer sounds? Everything in life is relative, and there comes a point where it makes no difference if a page loads in one second or two seconds. If that really matters to you, I'd seek help.I don't know...everyone? Go back to using Pentium 4s if you don't like faster everything...
Oh and guess what, Apple cares about faster stuff too. As seen by EVERY SINGLE PRODUCT they have iterated on...
Based on a few YouTube videos, it fails on more than just lack of apps and price of entry. It looks tacky for a start, and the interface is nowhere near as user-friendly as that on the iPad.
Why dont you tell me what ELSE it fails on since you have one in your hands right now?? Ill wait...
Sounds like a biased review of a review from someone who's unwilling to look at the situation objectively.
Quite clearly, when I refer to the aesthetics and interface, it is my personal opinion based on what I have seen and read. I don't need to have owned something to form an opinion, rightly or wrongly, although I'm quite sure I'm a better judge of what I like and don't like in things than anybody else on here. Even if I did own one, what I thought of it would still only be my opinion, never fact.Youtube videos don't replace personal experience. It's definitely a good source of information on the product, but you can't cite something you saw and preach it as fact.
Thanks for the attention, but seriously...seek help.Gryzor doesn't care about being unbiased, unlike some people here. Also, Gryzor makes more money than you do. In fact, Gryzor makes too much money to worry about being unbiased, loser. I also heard Gryzor made $4 grand just while typing that review of the review. Get with the program and stop trying to emulate Gryzor, who probably typed that post on the $829 64 iPad 3g which he threw out the window of his 2011 Pearl White Audi TT because $829 is chump change to Gryzor. Also, Gryzor doesn't care about labels, which is why he doesn't care about mentioning the 2011 Audi TT he bought for his wife because she wanted it. *******.
Speaking of speed test, i did a load on my wifi connection at 15mbps down and 3 up and i pull 14mbps down and 2 up. My ipad could never pull above 10mbps. I also noticed my signal holding strong than it did on my ipad.

At the end of the day, it's the apps that will decide this battle, and while Honeycomb may reach the masses in terms of having multiple manufacturers, Android hardly has a rosy history of generating great apps.

I'm not in bed with Apple, I'm in bed with my requirements that iPad just happens to satisfy quite nicely. If you don't like iTunes, don't use it, there are alternatives if you can be bothered to look. For many of us it is NOT the apps that make up my mind. I only need a few and many of the Apps for the iPad are crap and I would never install them on my iPad. You got a lot of your information wrong. You CAN buy one without any plan and the "interface" is slick if you would take the time to look at it and forget you are in bed with Apple.
I love my iPad but I am ***** tired of being tied to iTunes and not having flash. At least the Xoom WILL have flash while the iPad owners can only hope! The Xoom will add more choices and more choices is always botter!![]()

The choice is getting harder and harder. I love my iPad but . . . . the Xoom is awesome!![]()
You have to carry a charger. Cannot charge over USB.
iPad beats it in screen quality and contrast. (White looks grey).
iPad has better color reproduction at off-center viewing angles
$800 Xoom has worst dispaly than the $500 iPad
Many android apps require buttons that Xoom do not have
Requires tapping twice to select a new app
No microSD support in Honeycomb yet
http://www.anandtech.com/show/4191/motorola-xoom-review-first-honeycomb-tablet-arrives/10 describes:
"The Honeycomb Browser, camera app and even Marketplace have all crashed on me over the past two days."
"There are many bugs sprinkled throughout the OS (background data automatically enables itself after a reboot even if you disable it). Things like this combined with the instability I mentioned earlier makes me feel like Honeycomb was a bit rushed, perhaps to hit the streets before one other major tablet announcement coming this year?"
"Performance in Honeycomb seems even more dependent on background apps than with earlier versions of Android."
My iPad is able to max out my connection on speedtest:
17.82Mbps down
3.66Mbps up
Funny thing is all these things you listed as problems, are things the ipad is not even capable of... hmmm.
Soon, soon, soon... Doesn't sound like I'm the one who is ignorant.Flash support is coming soon
HDMI can be used without a dock, just need a microhdmi cable..
SD card slot will be active soon
I walked out of the store with a Xoom without a data plan.. activated later over the phone when i found i a got a corporate discount on it
Media syncing is as good as the apps... isyncr i can sync WIRELESSLY with my itunes library... or I can drag and drop my music and videos if i so please.
4g upgrade in May 2011

You talk like someone who hasnt peaked over the wall of apple to see whats on the other side.
ignorance is bliss.
I just can't get aboard a device with a lack of apps and app devs.
What are you supposed to do, read, browse and stare at widgets?
I think I'll stick on my iPad, do all of that and make music, animations and so much more.
A pretty desktop with no apps is just as useless as an ereader.
... Also "Apps will come" isn't good enough when you're still dealing with fragmentation.
Awesomely clunky, yeah. All that trouble he had with the camera and trying to switch modes...as for losing data connection
Some of the things we've seen from Apple over the past few months, re rules, regulations and percentages, should show anyone that having one company feel they can dominate any market is never a good thing.
Like I said earlier, it is unfortunate that its lacking alot of tab optimized apps.
But i firmly believe that it needs less apps to function well. ipad is ALL apps, essential a app launcher... app makes the ipad and fills holes.
I dont think apps are as needed on the Honeycomb platform imo.
