Clay is very disappointed with this thread. Clay can't remember the last time he's seen a thread as bad as this one. Clay really wishes it would just stop.

Signed,
Clay

We've had lots of pointless threads like this recently.
:)    :p ;) :D  :(

Writing your name at the end of a post...

I dont quite get it. What is with that after each and every post?

I can see who wrote a post by looking at the left side of my firefox window. I can see if you really like your name or something but is it really needed or is this just the new trendy thing to do.

Well, just to give a serious answer, I do it because I've been doing it since many years ago in the Usenet days when we didn't have fancy-schmancy avatars and stuff. It's a hallmark, a point of consistency so you can more easily recognize the long string of my posts filled with wit and wisdom throughout time and space (cough cough). Don't like it? Tough. :)

Not really hijacked. More like answered, and now the fun has begun.

That was a very short rant. As you can see from the definition of rant in the dictionary it should be longer. ;)
rant |rant| verb [ intrans. ] speak or shout at length in a wild, impassioned way

Wastelanded threads are threads that are locked. There, they die.

Cheerios,
Ben
Not necessarily. Threads can be locked and left where they are. They're usually moved to the Wasteland (which entails automatic locking) if they also are felt to just need to go away. Occasionally, a thread is outright deleted if the mods really want it to go away.

I thought it was gonna be a PC person ranting about why teh mcs r slow.

Happy Holidays,

Big Tom.

I don't hate it... but I must say I don't get it. Why don't people just use the signature feature? Why bother typing out the same thing over and over again?

I'll tell you what's worse, grown up people using smilies. Honestly, sometimes it's like an AOL teenage chatroom in here.

:) is bad enough.

:D This at the end of every sentence should be a prisonable offence - tedious cheeseballs.

The worst is  Any moron caught doing this should be found and shot.

I think smileys can be useful for indicating sarcasm or jokes.. It can be hard to distinguish sometimes on the internet between seriousness and sarcasm.
