UPDATE - replacement Apple Magic Trackpad is far better than the previous one.

Lesson - don't be shy about challenging Apple if its kit feels iffy or wrong.

UPDATE - wireless Magic keyboard and trackpad take longer to connect than the 2015 MBP and its older keybaord+wireless.
This behavior is to be expected I am told because of the addtitonal security associated with the finger print reader.

I chose the keyboard without the fingerprint reader.

I have the same MBP14 and keyboard and have not noticed any connection delays after sleep. Do you turn off the keyboard every night?

The keyboard and trackpad remain powered on, but the laptop itself is powered down every night. The slow connection is when powered up in the morning.

I haven't tired it "from sleep" as I have it set not to sleep.
