So I searched for and turned off/blocked every tweak option I could find that was related to media. I didn't want it playing, I didn't want it visible or referenced. Hell, I didn't even want any part of it to load at all. I disconnected all of it.

All makes sense..but the prefs file I use is one I adjusted myself - simply because yours was so economical it broke a lot of sites.
On mine I didn't make any adjustments that effect media playback (not knowingly) so not sure of the issue - not a problem really as QTE is not a workable solution for me.

I have to ask, did you happen to install the MP4 libraries? Most videos wouldn't play in-browser or QuickTime before I did. Afterward, I'm having far better luck with far more videos.

(Taken from the recent PPC DD thread)

I've found that a neat little, often unknown trick is to full-screen TFF from its hamburger menu or with Cmd + Shft + F. When it hides the navigational bars, and stops rendering the rest of the OS X desktop in the background, browsing hits noticeably faster speeds.

Now, try that with IceWeaselPPC! ;)

what all web sites are you able to use on it these days? found a box of old g4 minis and think i might keep 1 for my self.

Most everything works well, especially with tweaks and optimizations.

Good luck with your Mini.

Another periodic search and find…

REMOVING TELEMETRY AND DATA COLLECTION TO SPEED UP TENFOURFOX

Reference here: https://www.askvg.com/tip-disable-telemetry-and-data-collection-in-mozilla-firefox-quantum/

All of these should be 'disabled':

browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.feeds.telemetry
browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.telemetry
browser.ping-centre.telemetry
toolkit.telemetry.archive.enabled
toolkit.telemetry.bhrPing.enabled
toolkit.telemetry.enabled
toolkit.telemetry.firstShutdownPing.enabled
toolkit.telemetry.hybridContent.enabled
toolkit.telemetry.newProfilePing.enabled
toolkit.telemetry.reportingpolicy.firstRun
toolkit.telemetry.shutdownPingSender.enabled
toolkit.telemetry.unified
toolkit.telemetry.updatePing.enabled

experiments.activeExperiment
experiments.enabled
experiments.supported
network.allow-experiments

This setting, toolkit.telemetry.server, should be empty. That is, if you find Mozilla's server in there, click and edit and then just delete.

Some of these settings may not exist. I've added them (as boolean) and set them to false. I cannot really say if by adding them there is a speed increase, however since at least two or three of these settings exist and were set 'true' I changed them.

There is a noticeable (to me) speed increase.

Lastly note that the last four are repeats of current edits already made. I bring them up again because the link mentioned them.

EDIT: My personal prefs.js file has been updated to reflect these changes. See Post #1 for the download link.

EDIT2: All I can say is…damn!

Quick question, has anyone been able to get anything playing off QuickTime Enabler? I haven't been able to play anything I try to run for maybe about a month now.

And this is on FPR14 + MP4 libraries, etc...

The only time I could ever get QTE to work was using vanilla preferences (I use my own prefs file not the one in this thread) - and even then, 80% videos wouldn't play.

Well, it was great when it lasted.

I wonder why that is...

@eyoungren, have you considered making post #1 a WikiPost?

It could be cleaned up quite a bit, made far easier to read / sort through, and have download links to recommended addons. It can also be potentially organized in terms of which successive groups of tweaks are most effective. All in the name of people ultimately doing less work to optimize their browser.

Best of all, it can be continually updated by the community so it's not all down to you.

Just an idea...

I've waited to respond to this because I've been thinking about it. I still am.

On the face of it, I don't have any objections. However, a Wikipost opens things up to be updated by anyone. That's also fine as far as it goes and I can certainly see the advantages you propose.

What I don't want is that by opening it up that way, error, or duplications, or irrelevant information, or stuff that gets deleted but shouldn't creeps in.

I know that there is some stuff I have duplicated, and I mention that as well. But my hesitation is mainly from the standpoint of cleaning up after others. I've already done the bulk of the work and the thread just gets added to. I don't really have to do much except when new information presents itself.

I dread having to keep going back through information to confirm it's still valid every time something gets changed - such as I believe would happen in opening the thread up.

Am I right to be concerned or am I way off base in the way these Wikiposts function?

I can see your concern, you have valid points.

However, there is a saving grace to WikiPosts; a Time Machine for forum posts, if you will.

Beside the hallmark 'Edit' button, there is a 'History' button. If you click on this button, you are presented with every change that any user has made at any time. In this function, you are able to compare differences between revisions and see what changes have been made. On that note, users have an option to alert the OP whenever they have made an edit as to the reason they have edited the post. You may very easily request that people leave a reason why they've made an edit whenever they've changed something, keeping you in full control.

Not only that, you are also able to revert the entire post to any one revision if you don't like how it's turned out. Plus, you are able to take away the post's WikiPost status at any point in time, therefore you can revert to the very first revision, and then uncheck the WikiPost box to effectively reverse all changes and pretend nothing ever happened in the first place.

So as far as I see it, for you, the rest of us, and newcomers trying to refer to a valuable public resource, there are only great advantages to gain. However, because it is your post, if for whatever reason you are even more annoyed by unwanted changes made by users overstepping their bounds, you simply revert to the first revision and uncheck the WikiPost status, as mentioned, like nothing ever happened.

Yes, it will be opening the original post up, in effect turning it into a community-operated Wiki. But rest assured, it remains open with doors attached and controls in hand. If it ends up being more work than it's worth, you can kick all the changes out, and close them once more. Simple as that.

I will say that I know I (probably) unfortunately speak for myself when I say that any editor worth their salt will relay information that has been tested and verified by their personal experience with the subject, but I wish I didn't...

Hope I was helpful. :)

Yes, i used this for long time.

You need QTE v. 1.16 for Version TFF 17+ - 24 and QTE v.1.20 for newer Version TFF.

Normally, i would disable HTML5 Autoplayback and then just click on Youtube in the Window where the Video would play with Right Click and select the desired Playback option.
Lately it seems that Playback Functionality is more of a hit and miss, though.

Therefore, on Leopard, i rely on ClickToPlugin + Ninjakit with ViewTube Script (Safari 5) and on Tiger with Greasekit + ViewTube Script. (on Safari 4) for playing Youtube Vids.

OK.

So, I've made it a Wiki. We'll see how this goes. As far as I am concerned, I'm okay with how it's organized but if others want to make it look better than feel free.

The only things I ask from all members editing is that the disclaimer at the top be left alone as well as download and content links. If anyone has questions on those, just ask.

Consolidated all updates into one section. The 'notify author' box decided to be difficult and grayed itself out.

@eyoungren, may I ask why you have decided to keep sentences and paragraphs if they've been crossed out?

And about those download and content links, if they've been deprecated, why keep them? Likely only a small percentage still rely on them, if that.

I was keeping them because the original idea (for the thread) was as a record of changes over time. Kind of like 'track changes' in a Word document.

Objectively, you're right and there really isn't a reason for it. Except that from time to time I will go back to old references. Mainly though I just wanted to establish a track so people could see where we started and where we are now.

It also helps me to recall what I've tried already so I don't revisit it. Sometimes I repeat myself. :)

In any case, let me think that over. It's probably down to just being a personal hangup of mine.

That's what the History function is for... ;)

A recent thread about WebGL had me thinking, so I decided to double-check my WebGL settings. Turns out some stuff I thought had been set off was on and vice-versa. So I made a few changes.

Rather than listing them out, here is a screen shot if you want to replicate this:

I have also updated the download to my prefs.js file in case you just want that.

Was there any discernible difference?

Was there any discernible difference?
For me yes. I'm noticing a difference both in my Quad and my PowerBook. Like all tweaks at this point it's nothing drastic, but page rendering seems to be slightly faster.
