You really realise how laggy it was don't you when you go back to stock.
With my phone jailbroken it could take about 15seconds to open the txt message app, now only about 3. Same with many other apps although the txt app was particularly slow.
You really realise how laggy it was don't you when you go back to stock.
Conclusion:
You honestly believe, that Cycorder gives you "good quality video recording capabilities"?????
Wrong. You are testing two variables here and can not state that one of them is the cause of the issue that you see.
I have directly compared my iPhone 1st gen with a friends 1st gen iPhone both stock except for jailbreak and there was no difference. I then installed the apps I use from the jailbreak community and again no difference. Of course when you start adding in complex themes and background process is when you see the difference but the assertion that jailbreaking in itself slows down the phone is wrong, in my experience, and the tests you have done do not amount to the conclusion you have given.
You guys ever heard of the term, "Your mileage may vary?"
Just because people come to different conclusions makes none of them ultimately right or wrong. People are going to say they experience negligible lag, like in my case as I support jailbreaking, and those who are going to see the lag are going to say the opposite most likely because they do not care for jailbreaking. Who knows, it could be psychosomatic, that people are so hell-bent on LOOKING for lag that they notice it, and those of us who really don't give a crap about another FRACTION of a second don't look for it. If that fraction of a second is that important to some of you, like i said before, take 5 minutes less on the crapper and buy your time back. You guys are beating a dead horse here![]()
What I'm saying is simply this.
Jailbreaking introduces a slight lag. Then things you add ontop of that introduce more lag (like mobileSubstrate stuff and WinterBoard especially). So since it lags right off the bat, I don't feel good about even jailbreaking because then, I'll obsess over the lag and I WILL be looking for it. Staying stock gives me piece of mind that everything is running as intended to the best that it can run with what Apple has given us. I'm not saying stock is without bugs, but jailbreak and introduce non-Apple bugs? No thank you. I'd like to keep my iPhone as clean as possible for right now.
I think you missed when I said it was a fraction of a second slower... That's not that significant, but I'm just posting my findings.
Jailbreaking introduces a slight lag.
You're findings are between an iPhone and an iPhone 3G. The differences there could easily be the causes of the lag you are seeing.
That is not my experience.
Seriously all the arguements you have made about lag across multiple threads in this iPhone forum is getting a little tiresome. If you don't like jailbreaking or feel it is not for you then why do you care so much about other people doing it.
So Apple-bugs are ok?
I don't care if other people do it. I'm just sick of hearing people boast jailbreaking as "Doesn't cause lag at all".
What about that dude that had everything under the sun installed (plus WinterBoard)
oh yea how could i forget sb settings. Its so nice to be able to just quickly turn off wifi, bluetooth, and location. I use the gps a lot and notice if you leave location it drains the battery pretty quick so its nice to be able to quickly turn it on and off.
The problem here is that you continue to blindly harp on one side despite many people telling you otherwise. You have spread this all over the iPhone forums trying to brute force your point down every thread. This issue is covered under the forum rules.
Is there a toggle for location services?
There sure is - do a search for Location Service Toggle.
Okay, so the other day I was comparing side to side my jailbroken first gen iPhone with my non jailbroken iPhone 3G.
Here are some facts:
First gen iPhone: Fresh jailbreak with no backup restored. No Cydia or Installer.
- Compared to the iPhone 3G, the first gen iPhone was SLIGHTLY slower than the 3G at opening apps. I tried Calendar, SMS, Notes and Clock since those are unaffected by the internet. The iPhone was slower by a FRACTION of a second ALWAYS.
- Next, I restored my first gen iPhone and didn't apply any jailbreak.
- The first gen iPhone was almost always opening apps at the same time as the 3G
- In a few instances, the first gen was actually faster (but, I think this is due to being fresh and not restored to a previous backup)
- Most of the time it tied with the 3G though.
Please note, I restarted both iPhones before I started testing. Also, I opened the apps a bunch of times each so I would be sure the slowdown wasn't from the fact that I was launching the apps for the first time after boot (which is always a little slower because the apps aren't cached at that point).
Conclusion: The iPhone does run a fraction of a second slower just by jailbreaking it without installing ANYTHING extra. So to say you don't get ANY lag after having a bunch of extra background processes running is total bunk. Jailbreaking alone, makes the iPhone slower. I tested this myself.
I'm lucky, I have 2 iPhones I can experiment with. By the way, I'm not lying about any of this... I truly *do* see these results.
Boast or making a statement. I have said many times I have done tests with my phone and have not seen any lag at all with just jailbreaking. Even with the few applications that I have put on my phone I do not experience any lag due to them being on the phone.
Oh yeah that dude
Some people make over exaggerations. Some people report the truth. It is a question of being alert enough to know the difference.

i jailbreak just for pdanet
@OP I tend to agree, BUT I still leave mine for one reason. PDAnet. Basically the only JB app I have on my iphone I use. Cycorder is ok but just a toy/gadget.
I think the JB iphones appeal more so to teens just because they can put theme's and customize their iphones, which makes sense. The older crowd doesn't care much about these types of apps so it's not a big deal to JB for them. .
I think that as well.
