Just out of curiosity, how do you feel you rate when it comes to common sense and the ability to reason?

Dude- relax.

You stated your opinion. He stated his.

Look, if anyone wants to buy an imac that may/may not be plagued with manufacturing flaws, here's what I'd recommend:

1. Buy in-person from an Apple store.

2. Tell them you will need to open it up to check for monitor flaws after you purchase it.

3. Open and inspect it.

4. Demand immediate replacement if flaws are found.

5. Open second computer and inspect.

6. If second computer has issues, demand your money back.

7. Take your money elsewhere- Mac Mini, Mac Pro, buy used, Hackintosh, PC, whatever.

I was lucky and received a perfect i7 2.93, which I do recommend, as its a very fast computer and has been a wonderful purchase. But I would have been mad as hell if I had received a lemon. After 2 or 3 that would be it for me. I would get something else.

But if you can't get a perfect one, don't get pissed off at random forum members who don't agree with you and can't do anything about your problem. Let Apple know your disappointment with your voice, then do what any smart consumer would do- let your wallet do the talking and buy something else! If the numbers of faulty returned computers really are significant, Apple will definitely get the message.

I am very tempted to send the thread starters data data to Steve Jobs and see what he says. I currently own a PC but my wife has a MBP. I use her lap top all the time and love it. When I bought my Samsung 20 inch monitor several years ago I also read a lot of BS about there was something wrong with this brand or that brand monitor. The university I work at has several computer labs with about 50 iMacs in each one of them. They look good to me. I spoke to the Dean for the Masters degree program in computer science and she said that there is not a problem with the iMACS. The graduate students use them all the time and haven't been any complaints. I have done a lot of research to earn two Master degrees and a sample size of 15 or so is statistically not reliable to make even a remote hypothesis.

Check out this link and you see that the forum is full of people complaining about their PC monitors> They have the same complaints that I see here.

I have not looked at the link yet, but are you saying that since other mfg's sell crappy monitors that it is OK for Apple to do the same?

Again, a sample size of 15 monitors, and two APPLE EMPLOYEES telling me that yellowing is normal, and that they all have gray banding. You want to argue over my opinion of 70%?

Did I say I came up with a conclusion, or am I offering my opinion? You people that are arguing my statement of 70% are ignoring everything else in my post. Good job........

Could you please explain to me why computer science students would complain of slight coloring issues, or gray banding with their iMacs? If I was one of them I would not complain about it. However, if I personally paid $2400 for the same iMac (for home use), you better believe I am going to complain. Again, good job........

Oh, and thanks for the link. If I end up not getting an iMac, I still need to upgrade the display for my PC. This info will come in handy in my attempt to find a nice display.

Just by curiosity: Was your second iMac really new, or did you have even a shade of an uneasy feeling that something was odd about the package/packaging/unit? Like it was open and closed or something? Any clue would do.

Tom B.

I know you've had your suspicions about returns being recycled...everything seems to be in order and in like condition as the first unit. The only thing I found odd was the power cord. It was unwound and just sitting in the bottom of the box. Anyone remember if they are usually wound and held with a wire tie?

I'll tell you, if I had a product that was as bad a you describe I would take my money elsewhere. Do yourself a favor BUY A PC.

Based on the number of iMacs he has viewed with his own eyes (about 15) he can create a statistical model that tells him with what confidence he can assert that the actual defect rate is within a certain range of 70% (plus or minus, say, 5%). In other words: Shut up.

Theres no need to get angry especially when you are 100% wrong.

How can you possibly expect the OPs statistics to be correct without surveying a huge amount of iMac owners? I know a few people with them and not one has had problems. The ones on display in the Apple store nearest me were all flawless. So according to this logic, there is a 100% perfection rate...

See what I mean?

I totally agree with you. After growing up in NY then I moved to Los Angeles for 27 years, left 4 years ago to live in Richmond VA. I hear people say all the time: CA is land of the fruits and nuts. Now should I make assumption that 70% are fruits and nuts---don't think so! I spoke with the sales people at my local Apple store on Sunday and they haven't had an iMac returned in awhile.

Fruits and nuts... nice.

Do you honestly believe that the salesman are going to tell you if people are returning their iMacs? Give me a break.

BTW, you want to complain about me coming up with my 70% figure, but weren't you the one that came up with this comment....

I have been in this forum for some time. I am personally getting tired of hearing about all the flaws with IMAC. I was at my local Apple store this weekend and while there was an issue with the monitor at the beginning of the new release they haven't had one come back lately. A computer is like any other thing that is made in the world. Look at what Toyota went through, and their sales are still high. Their are a lot of internet companies that won't take a monitor back if it only has a certain amount of dead pixels. There are issues with all computers being made, just ask someone who owns a Dell.
With that being said I am looking forward to buying a IMAC 7 this week. If there is a problem I will bring it back and get it replaced. Try doing this when you buy a new car. I would rather see some substance in these forums and not just yellow screens etc. Keep in mind for every bad Apple there are thousands that are perfect. Sorry for the rant!

"Keep in mind for every bad Apple there are thousands that are perfect."

How on earth did you come up with that?

You always seem to have "just been" in the Apple Store to ask them about iMac return rates. Amazing. You keep asking Apple about issues, does that mean you are concerned about getting a faulty iMac? Why be concerned if there are no issues? I am confused......

Be happy with your iMac.

I think Steve Jobbs was very clear.
If you don't like it, take it back.

I don't see what the big problem is. I didn't like my first mackbook pro when they first came out because of the heat issue so I took it back. No exchange I just got my money back and bought something else.

So explain this. The guy in your Apple Store says they have not had returns in a while. One of the managers in my Apple Store says they all have the gray banding on the bottom. If you want to put so much value in what the employees say at the Apple Store, then I guess I am wrong. It is closer to 100% of 27" iMacs have some form of display issue.

Is it so hard for some of you to understand that when I say 70% of these iMac displays have some defect I don't necessarily mean that 70% of iMacs display and crap, or should be returned. If the yellowing, or gray banding issues are minor I would be happy to keep it. As I am sure many of the "Happy" iMac users are.

That is it. I am going to settle this BS. Give me the name of the store and manger I will give him/her a call and report back to the forum. You say you live in LA. Let me know which store it is and I will call tonight. Also why don't you scan your receipt and post it, of course black out your personal information. I am beginning to believe you don't even own or never have owned one and you're just a heckler.

You are mad

You guys are mental or totally insane...look, if the product doesnt do the job you want it to...buy something that does! For the kind of money you looking to spend on an imac you could buy a be-spoke system that meets your needs. My point is Apple never ever have advertised the Imac to meet your design/quality inspection/no yellow/grey banding needs. Stop being a geek, and buy a product that does meet your needs. Apple unfortunatly for you are now a fashion icon, a must "have" for consumers world wild and are no longer the under dog you always were proud to be associated with.

You think they will tell you anything over the phone? Anyway, I have no idea what the manager's name was.

A heckler?

On this very forum I have posted photos of the cracked LCD on my first iMac. Maybe the photos were fake?

If I go through the effort of posting a copy of my receipt what is that going to do exactly? Change your mind? Exactly which point will you concede if I do?

Do you really think that I would just make this up?
