This is causing fights every time I bring it up. Just got done arguing about it all
morning and now she is being passive aggressive and isolating.

We plan on purchasing an iMac for the bedroom when the new M4s come out.
My wife wants a cool color… purple, blue, or green. I want a warmer color… red or yellow.
Not orange.

Anyone married that can think of a system of choosing that is neutral and will make us both content? Thanks!

I suggesting browsing together https://www.reddit.com/r/macsetups and search for iMac, to see how the colors look in real life.

My pick would be based in the color of walls, desk and furniture.
For example, a time ago I saw a yellow iMac against a gray wall and the match was really nice. Some combinations wouldn't be so fortunate.
It's a neutral negotiation territory since the color of wall and furniture is already there.

Some random examples that I don't like:

I like my blue Mac. Personally, I would totally concede this argument. It makes no difference how it operates based on what color the Mac is. Seriously, tension in marriage vs color of Mac isn‘t worth it. Just be happy to get a new Mac.

Who is going to use it the most? I would let your wife pick out the color if I were you.

Seriously? Go with whatever you wife wants. In fact, go back in time to the first time you argued about it, and THEN tell her to pick the color and go with it. This is not the kind of battle you pick with a wife.

As someone who used to be married, my advice is to let your wife decide .. because if momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy! 🤓

You can use the View (color) In AR if you peruse the iMac on the iOS Store app...I did that to place my three favorite colors into my office to play with....its great. in my example green looks best.

If, as you say, you are waiting for an M4 iMac, the argument maybe moot. Wait and see what colors are offered. That said, if the colors end up being the same, the blue and the green aren’t bad. Give your wife what she wants. If it’s fine with her as long its one of the three colors you listed that she wants, pick the one you hate the least.

I think a lot of it depends on the layout of the room. Because my desk is up against the wall, the color effect is must more subtle. My M1 iMac is orange, but I never see the really color-saturated back of the machine -- just the front, stand and keyboard which are all a much softer metallic orange tint. If, on the other hand I had a desk more out in the open, that orange back would be a bigger pop of color.
