So I tried WoW for around 25 days, had a interesting 25 days to say the least.

I'm not a big fan of games like WoW, I played RuneScape many years back, so I thought I might enjoy WoW.

Joined the free 10 day trial, but bought WoW straight away, with burning crusade.

I made my character, a Blood Elf, Priest. I looked it all up, my main role would be to heal/protect other players.

Getting to level 1-10 was pretty easy, took me a few hours. 10-20 took me a few days, I spend around 2 hours on WoW a day. I did lots of quests, but started to get bored quickly.

I started to do dungeons, got to level 26, but again, I found it boring after a while. After playing 20 days, roughly 1 hour a day. I can safetly say I didn't barely even start the game. I've been told, I was just tipping the iceberg. I can't imagine myself sitting through another hour of WoW, bored out my face.

In the end, I "retired" at level 27. Is it me, or did I just do something wrong to be bored of it? I prefer going out for a drive.

Cool story. Neve played WoW and I have no interest, still. Go out for a drive.

I have a friend of mine who plays it incessantly and when he's not, he's telling me all about it. I have never played, have no desire to play and don't want to hear about it. I have told him this quite directly a few times and he continues to talk about it as if I want to hear it.

I wish he'd just go for a drive.

The more time you invest into WoW, the better it gets. It's a psychological effect.

I used to play WoW religiously 3 years ago (Vanilla and TBC). That means about 5-7 hours daily. All I did was raid, gather mats, and PvP. My guild was like a family and I really did have loads of fun. Fortunately, the game became much more casual and that is what eased me out of it. I like being challenged and it failed to do so after WOTLK. :)

With Cataclysm I've found that it's changed a lot. I enjoy questing, it no longer feelings like a string of poorly made generic quests since they have consistent storyline to them now. However I think the problem is for new players, each time a new expansion comes out, it introduces better gear and higher levels, they stack and push the bar further out for people who come to the game and need to level up. The problem is also that many dungeons etc are rendered obsolete by the expansions, rare drops from say wrath of the litch king, are superseded by quest items from Cataclysm.

It really depends on how you play, a guild or with friends makes it a lot more enjoyable. The Co-operation and storyline is what has made the game much more palatable for me. Had you asked a few years ago, I'd have given a similar story.

Things really begin when you hit 85 now. At least that's what I've found.

You did nothing wrong. You would have basically been doing the same thing to level 85. My caveat is that you might have enjoyed social based group challenges to take down extremely difficult bosses in the higher dungeons. The Dead Mines dungeon in Westfall was my intro to WoW dungeons, and I had a blast, but it's a cake walk compared to the higher dungeons. I played WoW for 2.5 years, but I was in it mostly for the exploration and some small group action. 25/40 player dungeons did nothing for me.

I agree that sociability is what makes WoW last, but the end game kills it for me. WoW is the most lavish and money rich game of all time, and if they can't keep the content pouring out nobody can. The end game equals repeating the same dungeons over and over or spending a month or two figuring out how to beat the most difficult dungeons. Alot of people enjoy the heck out of this.

The challenging most fun part actually starts when you start raiding. That's when things get more interesting. Otherwise it's just the same thing over and over, it's just you really got to get into the game to enjoy it, otherwise it can just feel like the most boring game ever made.

Hi

That is the way Of WOW if you play solo.....

Level 1 go kill 10 pigs
Level 30 go kill 100 pigs
Level 60 go kill 200 pigs

And that is WOW for the solo player sadly.

I think the quests and skills in Runescape are better, you just have to
ignore the obnoxious little kids.

Fantastic graphics do not a good game make.

Hi

Sadly it is one of the most boring games ever made, it needs a BIG kick up the backside for solo players, then I would go back to it and more than likely stay there.

I agree that sociability is what makes WoW last
And that same sociability (or lack thereof) is also what drives many people to quit, or worse.

Honest truth - I have never in my life met people more toxic and horrible than I ever met in Warcraft. I played for the better part of 6 years. I will never subject myself to that again. That game brings out the absolute worst in people and I have absolutely no desire to surround myself with that. Never ever again.

I wouldn't ever recommend Warcraft to anyone.

Hi

Most online games are full of these obnoxious people, if you are going to play in a group
play with people you know, I just would like a better solo side to it.

I'm well aware of the attitudes of online gamers in general. I play (and have played) various games in many genres - DotA, Starcraft, Call of Duty, Warcraft, RIFT, Civilization, Team Fortress 2, etc. There's usually an apple (or 12) that ruin the entire bunch.

However, with that said, I've still never met people anywhere else that can match the level of toxicity found in Warcraft. Snivelling brats full of insult after insult, and grown adults who seek out personal info to essentially "destory" someone.

While I don't necessarily disagree with any of the above opinions, I will say that wow really starts at max level. There's nothing "worth" doing until 85 nowadays. And then it's really all about finding a guild that you are comfortable with and can have fun around. It's that way with any MMO.

I'm sure you've also met those people that can play CoD or Halo for months on end. I find that kind of game fun in the short term but amazingly boring over the long haul. MMOs always (ok usually) have some kind of next "hook" to keep you interested.

All that said, as soon as Star Wars TOR is out I'm dropping wow immediately.

Hi,

what i meant was, quests are obviously boring and once you hit 15 you can use the dungeon finder to join a cross-server queue that will port you into a dungeon of your appropriate level. if you don't have acc gear, it's a good way to gear up and level, plus you get the achieves and daily satchel/currency rewards.

it doesn't really eliminate questing all together but if used in conjunction with it you can level much faster and get past all of the boring stuff.

I had the same experience the three times I tried to get into it (shortly after vanilla release, after BC release, then Cataclysm). All three times I never made it further than level 30.

I think, for me, it's just the atmosphere/mythology of the game. I can find myself enjoying the upcoming Star Wars MMO a lot more.

Maybe you had bad luck or chose poorly. ;) I played for a couple of years and while I ran into an occasional AH, most WoW players were very civil on my server. Not to imply most % enjoyed my experience.

I'm preparing to play SW:TOR but the cynic in me is preparing to be disappointed, while the optimist is hoping I'm thrilled. :)

Wow is dead before you hit 85 and the grind to get 85 is just too long if it's your first character.

I've played 7 chars to 85 and my record is about 7 days played, and even that will take you a month. THis is with full lvling gear and a max lvl guild.

To gain new customers Blizzard really have to do something with the endless grind to lvl 85, because nothing you do pre 85 matter the day you hit 85.

I've played Wow since beta, but I never log on anymore, there is just nothing more to do. PvP is broken and battlegrounds are just people afking and farming gear.

The game is what you make of it. Depending on your interests their are plenty of things to do in the game. It is very well polished and runs great even on older Macs which is a huge plus.

I have been playing since launch day back in 2004 (off and on), amazing that its been 7 years. I'm have an 80 DK and an 81 Lock right now that I'm trying to get to the cap. Been into MMORPG's since the days of EQ1 and have been played almost all of the popular ones.

Quests can get old and things can get boring, but the game does a good job of bouncing you back at different tiers.

It's a pretty hit & miss game. Either you enjoy the basic concept of questquestquestdungeondungeonlevelrepeatuntilmax or you get bored with it.

I really enjoy it, but I like that concept & all of the little side stuff to do in the game

I always thought it was killkillcollectkillkillescortkillkillkillcollectkillcraftkillkillkill. ;) I did not get bored until I hit the end game...

This is one game I never tried. Seems like the type of game I could enjoy, but that's really meant to be played every day for hours at a time. Maybe 10-15 years ago, but not now; those days are behind me.
