So after reading the list of jailbreak apps that are ready for iOS6, MyWi isn't one of them and I want it. So, I emailed Intelliborn and here's the reply...

basically, once the jailbreak is out, they'll update MyWi.

We will be releasing MyWi6 when the untethered jailbreak for ios6 is released. There will be an upgrade fee for those who have previously purchased MyWi4 or 5. Please be sure to install the trial app by tapping only on the word install in the upper right corner of the app page in Cydia to be sure it works correctly with your signal and equipment.

Thank you for your interest in Intelliborn,

Jackie Cross

Who cares? Most carriers permit tethering, and if you do it "illegally", they'll tack on a tethering plan and/or remove unlimited data plan if applicable.

Which carrier do you have? Sprint sure doesn't allow it without paying a lot extra.

A lot of people care, that's why a lot of people download tethering apps once they jailbreak. Carriers charge way to much to allow you to use the data plan you already pay for! I have AT&T and have been using MyWi and they have not tacked on a tethering plan.

I did the same with Intelliborn except for IntellscreenX; they'll release a compatible iOS 6.1 version as soon as the JB hit's the streets.

You know, I am over the whole debate about it being legal or not. If you think it's illegal, don't comment. If you like the idea, comment.

I guess I should've stated that's have VZW with unlimited data and I was not going to give that up. Plus, being on LTE, they can't say what's can/cannot do with my data or the apps that I choose to use.

So, I for one, am happy as I assume others are, too.

Okay. Until you are caught and forced permanently onto a tethering tiered plan.

I mean, I wouldn't even want to think about using Sprint's connection for my computer ... but YMMV.

MyWi was in it's prime before the big carriers started taking notice, switching people off plans while forcing them to pay for tethering and removing unlimited data plans.

I tried MyWi and immediately AT&T sent me an email telling me to stop. I switched to TetherME and haven't had any issues yet for a couple years now.

Tons of people responsibly tether as a backup solution and do not get warned.

I cannot wait for MyWi6. I get 1Mbps down on my Sprint 3G and that is fine for when my home's internet goes out, or I need a brief tether on the go. Once Sprint LTE hits, it'll be even better. I don't abuse it at all (not that you can on Sprint) and have never even used more than 1GB of data in a month.

Many people care about this.

That screenshot isn't even on 3G. Your location is bad, can't blame the network for you not physically being in a 3G area.

You've contributed nothing useful to this thread. Tons of people responsibly tether as a backup solution and do not get warned.

I have a Verizon unlimited plan. I only use MyWi when I am traveling and need Internet on my wifi iPad. Or when my home Internet is down. Don't use it much, but when I need it, it is a lifesaver. Verizon has never said a word to me, probably because I don't use a lot of data. I love MyWi.

Used multiple versions of MyWi on different iPhones over the years and AT&T has never said a thing. I typically do not abuse it but have had a few months where I've used a lot while traveling.

and that would be sprints fault, that is from my house which has an airrave in the detroit metro area

I too have unlimited data on Verizon, and I regularly download 80 to 100 GB a month, since it is my only Internet access source. I've been doing it for the last year and a half, and have never heard a peep from them.

I don't care that you're breaking your contract, that's none of my business. Note that this is a forum, and I'll comment as I please.

What you have said about Verizon's unlimited LTE data is true, but is a minority case here, and will apply to very few users.

You should be safe. Verizon only cares about tethering on unlimited as they cannot do anything about the share plans due to the settlement with FCC.

See above. You can only tether on Verizon's unlimited data plans if it is an LTE device, thus an iPhone 5 only.

--------------

I'm not against MyWi, I just don't see the point in using it since iPhones have hotspot capabilities now.

If you use it on AT&T with unlimited data, you will sooner or later get flagged and investigated and moved to a non-unlimited plan.

If you use it on Sprint, they will notice and will tack on the tethering charge.

If you use it on Verizon, unless you have an iPhone 5, you will sooner or later get flagged and investigated and moved to a non-unlimited plan.

It's not a matter of IF but WHEN.

1) Tethering on Verizon's shared data plans also work with 3G.

2) Can you please provide carrier announcements/large reports of such happening to back up your claims here?

1) that's in reference to unlimited data plans. OBVIOUSLY you can tether natively through settings. MyWi provides no additional functionality than that interface.

2) are you ignorant? It's a known fact carriers are doing it. Search and scan, it's far from unheard of.

Except I've read many different things from that statement in this forum, not to mention I know many people who tether on Sprint without a tethering package for years now with nothing happening to them.

The point is that, at least in my experience on AT&T, you have to pay more for a service that doesn't give you any extra data. Like, if I'm paying for 3GB of data per month, WHY would I pay $10 more just to be able to use that same 3GB in a slightly different way? It's an unfair company practice to squeeze more money out of us.

I actually tether on Sprint and have pretty good service most places. I have never once had to pay anything for it. As far as people complaining about a phone not working it is actually your own fault. You have a certain amount of time to try it out before you are stuck in the contract. So if you try it out and it doesn't work then do not keep it.
