First off, I know that emulators are "illegal"-- but for legacy systems that no longer yield any income to ANYONE other than maybe Gamestop who resells used games, I don't see the harm in them. Honestly, Nintendo, nor third-party N64 developers are hurt by the N64 Emulator crowd.

N64 games are still sold "new" off the Wii's virtual console. So yes, emulation affects them.

Hmm, I don't have a Wii so I didn't know this.

Well fine, but in the days of Gamecube... there would have been no effect! I don't recall there being a digital content distribution system for the Gamecube nor an N64 to Gamecube converter attachment.

EDIT: Additionally, the only games I play via N64 Emulator are Super Mario 64, and Super Mario Kart. I purchased these games for the DS the minute they came out. They are great games and I would legally purchase them in any instance possible. If I had a way of playing them on my Gamecube I am sure I would own them (Sunshine and Double Dash don't compare). As I don't have or want a Wii, I would like to play them on my Mac. I like to play them during classes at University. :p

Has sixtyforce been updated for SL? I think I checked/tried a month ago and was unsuccessful. I will check again.

EDIT: The version I had was 0.9.1... 0.9.2 works! haha. Sorry for the thread. :/

this link is on their main page, but it doesnt seem to get much attention.

this is a beta version of a cocoa rewrite of sixty force (0.9.5)

EDIT: after using zeron64, I take back my recommendation of sixtyforce 0.9.5. ZeroN64 is the winner.

the dl link is here for the one that couldn't find it

zeroN64

Sorry, I can't find a DL link, but here is info

Yes, it is for Intel Mac.

see above, i take away my recommandation of sixtyforce after DLing zeroN64

zeroN64 uses pj 64 which has game saves for free!

not to mention it runs games better than sixtyforce

if you bought the console and the games the first time round, is there really a problem with emulators?

Now that developers see they can make money off their simple, previous-generation console games by porting them to new mobile gaming platforms (Nintendo, iPhone, Android etc) ; I think we might see a lot of old games being "Un-abandoned".

While they mightn't have cared much about console emulators & copied ROMs previously, it might start being an issue again.

Yup. When you buy a game you buy a license to run the specific version of that software for the hardware it was intended for. You don't own that disc/cartridge. You don't own the rights to that game, unless you are the copyright holder of course.

N64 Emulator?

Any tips or advice for a Nintendo 64 emulator? I downloaded and have SixtyForce working, but when I Tried to test run Mario 64, it lagged terribly bad. Did I do something wrong? I have an i7 Macbook and I booted into Windows and Project 64 had the same game running at 1680x1050 with AA on so I know it's not the comps fault.

Is the OSX emulator just that terrible or am I doing something wrong. Are the ROMs I have to download specific to OSX?

everyone says sixtyforce is the best, but honestly, zeroN64 is much much better as it runs more games. It's a cider port of a windows n64 emulator. If you can get it to work, it's amazing. Trust me.

Emulators on the PC have become a fairly common thing. Due to the immense popularity of the Nintendo Wii console, developers have taken advantage of the Wiimote’s Bluetooth and infrared technologies to use the controller on 3rd party systems. Using emulation to play games that were for the Nintendo 64 really would not be too difficult whatsoever. It would be recommended to get a gamepad controller because of the various amount of buttons used for a Nintendo 64 game.

Some emulators are better at handling certain roms than others. I'd suggest trying another emulator (do a title search for "n64" here on the forum) or trying a different version of the Mario 64 ROM.

I'm looking for a good n64 emulator

As the title suggests, i'm looking for an N64 emu. I've been trying to get Mupen64 working correctly but even with the Limit Speed option selected i get about 300fps, which makes OOT completely unplayable. I've tried SixtyForce but it crashes right after the rom loads.

Anyone know what else i should try?

I wish, i have my whole genesis, nes snes and gameboy emulators with roms but my n64 rom library has no emulator to play it on... oh and by the way somebody might say your not allowed to post this cause its border line illegal haha:D
