Egad... I would NEVER fix a novice up with either of those programs--FAR too confusing for the beginner. If you go Mac, just set her up with TextEdit--it has all basic word processing features, and no bells and whistles to get confusing.

If she wants a bit more power, spend a few bucks for Melell--still drastically cleaner and easier to use than Word or OO.

Surely there's something similarly simple and tidy on Linux.
