if this doesn't turn out to be an option in their area, try a dynamic DNS setup. For the actual admining, try Chicken of the VNC or something.

I'm guessing she wants to be able to type letters, and do some word processing. (hence requirement for printer) so it's gotta be Open Office on the linux machine, or.... I actually have a 'spare' office:mac licence she can have (i got it with my education pack).. so i guess that's another bonus of her going with Mac...

Egad... I would NEVER fix a novice up with either of those programs--FAR too confusing for the beginner. If you go Mac, just set her up with TextEdit--it has all basic word processing features, and no bells and whistles to get confusing.

If she wants a bit more power, spend a few bucks for Melell--still drastically cleaner and easier to use than Word or OO.

Surely there's something similarly simple and tidy on Linux.
