I read on TUAW last week that Navigon was going to release a paid update that would offer real-time traffic. Anyone know the details of when it's coming?

I ask because the article also mentioned an introductory sales price, that I don't want to miss.

Thanks.

Mid October

Indeed it will, and I will purchase as soon as it is available, just like I did with the NAVIGON app it self.

Anyone have any first hand experience with navigon's live traffic updates from their stand alone units? Basically, are they pretty timely and accurate?

I think this LIVE service on the iPhone isn't anything like what is available on the standalone units, it sounds much more comprehensive.

I think the stand alone units only use TMC which is broadcast over FM.

Any ideal how this app will work in conjunction with the gps app will they be all in one or two separate apps ?

How will I get the upgrade?

I have just installed Navigon. Since I don't find any desktop representation (manager?) in my Mac Applications folder, and I don't see anything in my iPhone app concerning updates, how will I know when Live is available, or any other updates/upgrades, for that matter? I guess I'm used to programs that have a Help section with an update selection.

Just go back to iTunes and find Navigon when the update is out. It'll be in there.

aluren,
Thank you. Am I supposed to check iTunes>Navigon periodically, or is there some way I can be notified when Live or other updates, etc. might be available?

On the iPhone, a # will appear in a red circle around App Store. On iTunes, a # will appear next to the word Applications. When you see that, it means there is an update to one of your apps, and it may be Navigon

mackmgg,
Thank you...that answers my question...or, more accurately, I had forgotten about # signals. My oversight...appreciate your input.

Just note that you probably don't want to try to download a Navigon app update on the iPhone itself. It is usually much safer to use iTunes for such a large download.

On Navigon's Facebook page they say it will be submitted to Apple shortly. Sounds like a mid-October submission and a late-October availability.

Per Twitter update from Navigon, looks like EU has been submitted to App Store and North America to follow shortly. So yes.... look for late October, early November at the latest. I will be estatic to have this traffi feature when I drive from Columbus, OH to Chicago, IL for Thanksgiving!

Agreed.
I think they have dropped the ball with uk postcode as a purchase. It really should have been there from start.

Fine pay for traffic. I agree with that but not full postcode.

I don't think you're paying for this update. I think the update will include application updates PLUS the ability to purchase traffic in-app. I could be wrong about that, but that's the sense I got when I read about this release.

The facebook entry says full uk postcode as In app purchase.

" the updated version 1.3.0 will also include a new uk postcode navigation feature as an in app purchase"

I guess navigon will update tomorrow and we will know full story.
