The beautiful thing about display technology is that unlike sound there are objective measurements and standards to explain what is perceived and correct, which helps remove or mitigate bias.
Peak luminance is a measurement and there is no room for subjectivity.
Studies based on perceived brightness due to shifts in color temperature are also objective and controlled and leave no room for subjectivity.
To answer your question, at one point I had a Sprint One, ATT s4, ATT i5 in my home at the same time... is this relevant to the fact that the iPhone is objectively brighter? Nope, none, nada zilch, zippo, but my perception was in line with the objective data.
