You can call it illegal or whatever you want, but to me it's just getting my moneys worth.

And to those of u who say its stupid of me to post those kind of statements online.... reallly? i mean cmon,... reallly? They're gonna charge you $300 for a ****** service and they mark up everything they sell to the point that its almost exaggeratedly overpriced, don't try and give me **** for getting my moneys worth...

Dont hate the player, hate the game.

Ok, here I go. Again, I do not have a horse in the race, but nonetheless.

I understand that you want your moneys worth. I want my moneys worth, but Apple wants their moneys worth too. See the problem or contradiction?

As far as hating the game, but not the player: the players are the game. :D Without the players, there is no game.

Players create, follow, and break rules within the game. So if you blame the game, you may be blaming yourself. Sorry, I tend to go off with philosophical rants on occassion and for this I apologize. :D

EDIT: When are you buying a Mac Pro? I am still on the ropes, but I hope to be persauded, as I have "money in hand" so to speak. I am thinking 8 core, due in a large part to the forum members.

This is because Apple's $350 AppleCare doesn't cover accidents... which is total ********.

A $2500 Alienware from the Microsoft store costs $300 to get 3 years of coverage with no questions asked including any and all accidental coverage.

I could accidentally shoot my PC and get a brand new one no questions asked.

If I wasn't so obsessed with Logic I would say **** apple and just build a nice PC to run Pro Tools.... but alas.... Logic is too nice...

and yea maybe my car will be the next thing to have an accident.. well actually i'll probably wait til next year so i can make sure to take advantage of the system at just the right time.

Yeah maybe, but the point is I don't think that would work with their system in place. It would be cool though as I had a Macbook Pro crushed in transport once which sucked and I stupidly didn't have it insured. Funny though how people judge - as if they've never done anything wrong in their life. Not saying it's the way I'd play cause I kinda think that karma makes you pay either way.

Thing to remember is the resale on a Mac is actually very good and it's probably just as good to upgrade sooner and sell it. I've sold a 4 year old G4 that cost £1100 for £500. Pretty good, right? So sell it in 6 months and you'll do pretty well out of it :)

It’s just you getting your money’s worth? No, it’s you stealing and driving up the costs for honest customers. It’s people like you who make the prices so high.

You can try to justify it all you want, but you are espousing criminal acts. I love to come on here and help people, but you don’t deserve it.

Logic does have a bug right now with it's mutli-core support:

http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=13010400

I don't want to scare you off from the two socket configuration, but figured I would at least warn you :)

The buyers guide advises wait if you can:

https://buyersguide.macrumors.com//#Mac_Pro

Seems like sound advice combined with the commentary about CPU availability elsewhere in this thread. Then again Apple has been known to get CPU's ahead of the rest of the industry so who knows!

Don't forget this handy table:

http://www.appleinsider.com/mac_price_guide/

and there is also the refurbished gear at the Apple store - you can get good deals in there too.

Since Logic is one of the few applications that really does take full advantage of all available cores (well, when it's not affected by multi-core related bugs :p ) I personally would stick with the two socket Mac Pro (8 or 12 core). Not only do you get double the cores but double the RAM slots as well. There are some pretty good deals in the refurbished section of the Apple store right now, and there have been some recent deals with previous generation stuff from resellers - I think the most recent one I kicked myself for missing was from Samy's Camera in LA?

Do you know if it is possible to purchase the 3.33 ghz 6 core, and then later install another 3.33 ghz 6 core when i have the funds?

I think that would be the way to go.... and if i get the 8 core its really only 2 more cores.... and not really any more powerful

6 x 3.33 = 19.98
8 x 2.4 = 19.2

And i'm starting to like more and more that the individual cores would be 138% as powerful as the cores in the 8 x 2.4 model. It would only be $200 more from the apple store... but i think i can get one on ebay for a better deal...

There is still a small part of me that really wants to get the 17" macbook pro with 8gb of ram... but i just don't know if it will be powerful enough to run the virtual instrument super orgy that i'm looking for..

thanks for the opinions again

Not without swapping the processor daughtercard.

The single CPU and dual CPU processor daughtercards are different - and pricy!

Anand Lal Shimpi ruined his socket in a botched upgrade attempt and the board set him back $400:

hmmm... well i guess that is good to know then, i won't be trying to do that haha. Well no I'm a bit unsure of what to do once again. I have about 2 weeks before I get my $$$ so at least I have time to think about it..

6 cores with 32 gb.... i think the Logic benchmark test over on GS scored about 110 tracks... so if you break down

~ 10 Drum Tracks
~ 8 Bass Tracks
~ 35 Synth Tracks
~ 8 Sample Tracks

It should handle it just fine.

The i7 MBP with 8gb ram is scoring about 67 tracks... which is right about where i feel comfortable making a complete composition, but having the extra 40-50 tracks of space is priceless mental insurance if you know what i'm saying...

I think I'll wind up going with the 3.33 ghz 6 core model

if there are any parties who object to this marriage, speak now or forever hold your peace!
