None.

Mac Pro do not have hardware or firmware support for Thunderbolt. For now, it's a ugly hack that work sometimes and depend on booting Windows first.

Forget about Thunderbolt on a MP51.

but what about the usb c? it does all right? including thunderbolt 3 right? sonnet has this usb c card but no clue if it takes 40Gbs

USB-C on a Mac Pro is just USB3.0/3.1 with a different connector. Not even faster.

ok i get it: forget about thunderbolt 3, but usb 3.1 has two: gen 1 with 300mb/s et gen 2 with 1200mb/s, is there a way out there to get gen 2 speed on mac pro please? thank you

No, even with the best ASMedia controller, 10Gbps with PCIe 3.0 and 5Gbps with PCIe 2.0, tops around ~400MB/s with a MP51.

what are you trying to get from the card?
do you just need a USB C cable or are you looking for an option to get a fast connection from your macpro?

i just got a cheep usb 3 card thats powered by the PCI slot, much simpler.
it's not the fastest and only has 2 usb3 ports but my WD external HD's cant relay go that fast any way so works relay well for me.
even works with drives powered by the USB3 cable.

(if you do buy it report back on achieved speeds)

need the port usb c to connect to musical equipement and has the signal to work with, the speed is not that important, just need a usb c card which work with mac pro, stablely

One thing is advertisement, another is real world usage.

thank you for your guide, but still get nothing, no product at all which mentioned from the topical, there is no card on sell neither ebay nor amazon, so i wonder what they use the professionnal, they should not have all the large knowledge as us here, but there are millions of studios who still use the mac pro, so what they work with?
If you simply need USB-C ports on your Mac Pro, this card will work: https://www.sonnettech.com/product/allegro-usbc-pcie.html

given the line of questions being asked you don't seem to understand some basic protocols and this is important in the audio world (and other "worlds" too). That is a THUNDERBOLT interface. You can NOT connect it to a cMP that has no way to integrate Thunderbolt protocol (at least not without hacks, and I cannot believe AT ALL it would be a stable system) You should not try to proceed with that route because you're going to be even more lost trying to troubleshoot the mound of issues between Thunderbolt, OS, DAW, interface, and audio drivers.

The biggest thing to understand here is Thunderbolt is not USB and USB is not Thunderbolt. USB-C is a port type, just as USB Type-A is a port type. What you likely are looking for is a USB3.1 PCIe card that has USB-C ports, which uses USB protocol. Just because Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C use the same port, they are NOT the same protocol. This means just because the plug fits, doesn't mean it works. A Thunderbolt 3 interface needs a mobo with Thunderbolt 3 capability which a cMP does not have. cMPs can however utilize USB3.1 that have traditional ports or the newer type-C port.

That is a pricey piece of equipment too! For coming off as so unfamiliar with the topic you would really benefit from consulting with some local dealers or Sweetwater, or some similar group in your area that could direct you to what hardware and software you want based on your desired needs and projects.

Usb C is just a connector. Individual usb-c cables can have different uses. Different usb-speeds, DisplayPort version, thunderbolt. Not all cables do this all at once. For thunderbolt, your computer needs to support this. Just having a usb-c port on your computer does not mean you have thunderbolt.

On windows pc side of things, there's no AMD CPU computer with thunderbolt. Intel hasn't released this for other companies.

Although there's one guy who made this possible, it is not available to us.

If you want a computer with thunderbolt, as your audio-card needs, your options are only: build or buy a intel computer with thunderbolt, or buy a MacBook Pro 2016 and up or iMacs with thunderbolt.

Thunderbolt-usbc-displayport-etc in one cable is a mess. The selling point is that you need only one type of port. Its a lie. You cant split 1 thunderbolt port into new ones. So usb3 will always be needed.

I own a macbook pro 2016, a macpro5,1 and recently i build an intel pc with thunderbolt.

if all you need to do is plug in a USB C thing to your mac pro get the USB PCI card you linked or any USB 3 card and you can just use a cable like that.

i was confused at first as to why you where asking for thunderbolt or USB C as if you needed massive data speeds then it's a problem but i assume your audio device wont need massive data, eGPU, display out etc then you will be fine

i think with any usb 3/C PCI card (if normal usb 3 then with a usb 3 to usb c cable like i linked)

The device the OP is trying to connect is purely a Thunderbolt device. No USB card or adapter will work with it.

The MOTU AVB Interfaces that have a Thunderbolt port also have a USB2 port, and work well under USB with cheesegraters. In other words, they work today and will work tomorrow, too. I'm running an 828es with solid performance on my 5,1.

ops my bad for not looking up the hardware, was just guessing

i dont relay want to read all the manuals but looks like a cool piece of kit, with all pro level gear it is worth reaching out to the manufacture or the shop that sold it to see if they will help with optimal setup as well as reading the manual.

i did not :p but i dont have one, i have got PDF's for all the kit i do use on my computer and phone for when i do have problems tho

manual
http://media.uaudio.com/support/manuals/v961-3m2bV/Apollo x8 Hardware Manual.pdf

ok i am reading it and the manual dose say on page 32 that usb c is not thunderbolt and explains why
tempted to say buy a macmin if you relay want thunderbolt for audio work

more support stuff
