The issue at hand is that the old Mac Pro doesn’t have Thunderbolt at all.
oh right, I forgot that (and I have a 2009!). I'd bought the adapter for my 2012 mbpro and forgotten which computer has what ports

i've bought the startech card, it's arrived today, but it seems don't work well on my mac pro5.1, i connected the sata cable from my disque caddy sata, it did charge my mb12 via usbc, and it shows up my usb key in finder, but it will take 10 minutes to show up the documents inside, it could not be the design speed, so what should i do, any idea please?

The best troubleshoot course of action is to do a clean install on a empty disk and check if works as expected there, ask people who have this card if the same behaviour happens with them too.

always worth checking there website and any manuals or updates there may be for the card.

To the gentleman trying to make a UAD apollo interface on a Mac Pro 5.1:

Forget about it, there is just no way BUT if you are looking to use UAD plugins there are (new or second hand) Pcie cards from UAD that will work perfectly for you in that machine!

And as far as interfaces go, there are excellent USB, firewire or PCIE systems that work perfectly on those machines. I have a prism lyra 2 that is stellar but there is plenty of good choices from RME, MOTU, LYNX etc etc

Is there any thunderbolt 3 PCIE card on the market that will work with MP 7.1?
