I went ahead and bought NFSU last night and it's without a doubt the best new racing app.
I think the best thing about it is that it proves the iPhone/iPod is probably the newest/best platform for games and gaming like this. I'm glad they took their time putting it out, and the price is right. (Just like all the other games) you have your iPhone (with iPod) and a gaming platform as good as any portable platform I've played on.
I disagree. Nintendo DS is clearly a better product because it allows for several different inputs, including the most important ones to gaming - buttons.
Tilt controls or touch screen steering just don't cut it for a racing game where you actually want to be engrossed instead of thinking about what angle you're holding your phone at all the time.
Also, I've noticed on many occasions that the controls for iPhone games, whether touch or tilt can actually interfere with the experience, such as blocking the speaker with your hand or placing your finger over on screen action you really need to be able to see.
Thank you. I have spent over 50 dollars on games for the iPod touch. I am an avid gamer and games that are suitable for the touch interface are casual and tower defense games in my honest opinion. NfS:U is a good game, but it really is held back due to limited input (i.e lack of physical buttons). I am not going to gripe about the "on rails gameplay." I can understand why EA went that route - simply to lessen the frustration of the user. Tilt and touch isn't entirely accurate to begin with - and with an arcade fast paced racer such as the NfS brand it would have been a complete disaster.
I am not knocking the iPod touch or iPhone for its gaming capabilities entirely. I enjoy it - obviously if I spent over 50 dollars on gaming apps alone. However, not every genre works without a hitch and some do - but, the "magic" is missing from them due to cutting corners and trying to make it work without physical buttons.
I've got a bit of a problem here, my entire game is in Japanese (no English option like EA had for SimCity). I don't mind not understanding the story so long as I can play the game.
Pretty much all I understand now is flicking up speeds up the car, flicking down applies the brakes, and tilting steers. I know there are other controls (something to do with the pinch gesture), and I'd be grateful if someone could post the other controls.
Anyone actually unlock the Pagani and Carrera GT? I have the GT2 and its almsot fully modded. Is the Pagani faster?
