This is not a thread about which phone is better. I am not asking that. I need your help. I am currently using AT&T iPhone 5 that is unlocked (as of yesterday). It is also jailbroken with update 6.1.2. I have been unsatisfied with the iPhone's battery life from day one. I got mine in Oct., so I have had it for a while. The standby battery life is like no other phone I have ever seen. It is great, but when you need to use the iPhone it is a whole new ball game.

Here is what I do on a daily bases on my iPhone 5: check email, send between 25-50 text messages, check gizmodo and engadget at least 5 times a day, and finally check tapatalk app which is connected to this forum. As you can see I am not really a heavy user at all. Most of the time I will do quick charge in the afternoon to make sure I make it through the day. On Wed. of this week I just let it go to see if I could make it through the day and it died at 9:30 pm. Now I am ok with this if I am at work and can charge the phone, but if I am out and am not near a charger this is not expectable for my use.

I have tried all that I know for the battery. I have restore several times, and restored as new because that is Apple's answer to every problem. I have tried removing apps on the jailbreak and that does not work. My battery life was the same before I jailbroke as it is now, so I know it has nothing to do with the jailbreak. I am getting about 5 1/2 hours of usage on a charge. Almost 6.

Ok so here is how I need your help. Is there anything I else I can do? Has anyone else had these problems and fixed them? I do not believe there is a problem with my iPhone. I just think the battery life is crap. A 1430 mAh battery just does not cut it in todays smartphone market. I have looked into battery cases, but the Mophie helium got bad reviews and it does not look very protective. The Mophie Air is way to much and I have not see a review for it. The last one I have seen is the powerskin, but like the others it just makes the iphone look like crap.

If there is nothing else that I can do should I head for the Note II? Much bigger battery, and I have heard a lot of good things about the battery life on it. Or should I keep the iphone 5, and just live with it?

I did not start this for people to argue which phone is better. We have enough of those threads here already. I really just want some help. I am looking for your opinions, so I really don't care if you have a bais. I just want to hear what you think.

couple of things to check about your setup

1. email setup, make sure its not doing something out of the ordinary, follow recommended email setup
2. everything that you are doing shouldnt do that much to drain your battery so you might have an issue with the device.. take it to apple see if they can diagnose an issue with the battery

i have a note 2 along with the iphone 5 and i keep going back and forth, the note 2 has an incredible battery life, its almost unbelievable, but i just keep going back to the iphone its like a magnet, everything works soo well.

Yea that is what I heard about the Note II. I am just not sure if I am expecting too much from the battery or what.

i certainly cant make up my mind, its very frustrating. i like the note 2 but i like the iphone 5 as well, truthfully other then battery life i cant complain about the iphone, it does everything incredibly well. screen size is not an issue for me.

with that said i still think you should be able to address your battery issues with apple

Yep I just hope it is not me doing something. I mean the Apple store closest to me is an 1 1/2 hours away. I hate to waste a trip. I also kind of think I am trying to make an excuse to get an android.

My Note II is so efficient & enjoyable with its large screen and Android OS, I've been using it as my primary phone. My iPhone 5 is OK but it's tiny screen is quite limiting.

I've found that my Note II integrates nicely with my MBP, MBA and iPads. Because Android is so different from iOS, many people fail to take time to learn it. As a result they cheat themselves from a great experience.

It's like people that have no experience with a Mac, when switching from a Windows PC. If they take the time to learn how a Mac works they end up really liking it.

I held out for over two years, yet it's apparent Apple has some fear of using the same screen size as top of the line Android phones. Currently 4.7" is standard for HTC & 4.8" is standard for Samsung.

Apple stretched its screen but kept it the same width so they could advertise 4". Since I prefer to use the landscape mode for email & messaging the iPhone 5 is no better than my 4S or my prior 4. That proves that Apple doesn't care about improving usability. At least for those of us heavy users that use a smartphone for what it's designed for.

Samsung "get's it" and that's but one reason their popularity continues to climb rapidly. When the Galaxy S4 is introduced in the next few weeks & Apple has nothing to respond with, that will be a wonderful gift to both Samsung & Google.

I just undervolted my note 2 to 1ghz per core max just to try it out thinking it would be too slow or something and to be honest i hardly noticed a difference (i dont play games on it) after all day at work I still have 87% battery life left. This phone is great.

I do far more than you on my iphone (30-50 texts a day, 30 - 60 minutes of calls, 3 hours listening to music, photos and Instagram daily, Facebook, twitter and reading engadget / pulse reader) and I still manage to get through an entire day with around 40% battery remaining.....

Also be aware you can't just 'restore' your phone after a jailbreak to return it to normal as some stuff remains changed and remnants of the jailbreak persist, especially if you've downloaded various tweaks etc... In order to do a clean restore, you must do a full DFU restore.

Do a full DFU reset / restore.

________

However, given the sheer amount of threads you have started and the contents therein, you should probably just move to Android and be done with it - regardless.

Sheer amount of threads I have starts? What like 3? Maybe I will try the DFU restore. It just a pain in the butt, and it seems any time you have a problem with your device Apple's answer is restore. I get really tired of that. Even if I had not jailbroken restoring in a pain. You have to wipe everything off and start a new. Over the life of the phone you end up doing this a half dozen times for different problems. It seems Apple should be getting the bugs out before they send these updates out that mess our phones up.

In my experiences with Apple products DFU restores most of time don't do anything to help.

If you do a DFU reset, make sure you do not recover from a backup either.
Set up the phone new.

Restoring from a backup of when your phone was jailbroken can contain messed up files which could cause more issues.

This is one of the main reasons why Jailbreaking is not the perfect solution for IOS users who want / need those android like customisations... If you want those extra features without the hassles associated with restoring and such, then Android is a much better solution for you.

As for needing to do it (restore), well unless you Jailbreak, there is rarely a reason to need to restore.

The only time I've ever restored is because of Jailbreaking - which is not Apple's fault.

Well I have had plenty of times that I had to do a restore without jailbreaking. I had screen issues with my ipad 2 and I was told to do a restore. Any problems people have with batteries or anything like that are told to restore. A lot of people have said to restore before you download the next iOS update. I hardly ever restore because of a jailbreak.

You should not need to restore because of iOS updates, unless you corrupt the OTA download, or have been jailbroken prior to the new iOS update.

Having a screen issue on your iPad 2 is a different.

Whether you choose to restore is vastly different to actually 'needing' to restore.

Ok well when I went I to the Apple store they told me to do a DFU restore before they would do anything. I also was told again before I jailbroke my iphone to do a DFU restore to try and fix the battery life issue. Were those restores not needed? I was told that I could have a corrupt file on the update. I did that update from my computer not OTA. I am truly asking because I really don't know.

Just to give you another battery update with the note 2. I leave GPS, wifi, and bluetooth on 24/7.....currently I have 81% battery with 10 hours 3 minutes off the charger and 1 hour 5 minutes screen time. Usually I get about 5 hours 30 minutes screen time before I charge it at night with still 35% battery.

Wow that is crazy. I am not up for an upgrade at AT&T so I did the Internet chat thing and the person said they could not do an early upgrade. I told her thanks and I would try and call and talk to a manager about it. I am planning on calling after I get off work just to see what will happen. I hope they will let me upgrade, but I am not so sure.

It's awesome. I never have to worry about a charger again. If i went somewhere for the weekend with normal usage I would be fine without even charging.

How that is great. Wish the same was true for the iphone

I went from the 5 to this, and it was a good change. I used them side by side for about two weeks before making my decision. I just realized for me personally I use a phone of this size as a tablet as well. The only thing I use my iPad for now is timers on my lights and to control my airport express. Also If your TV has dnla you can display your screen on the TV without using appletv.

Oh wow. The only hang up I have is I have always said if I get a android device it will always be a nexus one. I had an HTC and just hated it after a while. I am sure I will live the note 2, but that is still in the back of my mind.

How did set up using both phones? What sim adaptor did you use? I add a sim adaptor that pulled a pin out of my galaxy nexus and now the sim tray does not work.

I went from an iPhone 4S to a Nexus 4, on to a Note 2 and couldn't be happier.

So nice not to have to worry about battery life anymore. Plus I keep a spare "just in case."

Stop installing incompatible stuff?

Over the course of two years, while juggling most of the flagship androids with it, my iPhone 4 got two restores. TWO. And that was because i wanted a fresher install of 5.1.1 for some reason instead of OTA.

I don't think so. The only reason I restore was because the battery life was bad, and that was before I jailbroke. I don't have any apps that I downloaded from App Store would cause that.

I used the iphone nano Sim since I could make it work with any phone. These are the adapters I use and have never had any issues. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009AB557I/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Then something is wrong with your iPhone i guess. Even with a jailbreak on mine i charge every two days only and i also play stuff like bastion on it. Have to charge my nexus 4 every day even if i only do browsing as the major part of usage.

----------

So do you slide the sim into the adaptor, or it just kind of lays in there? The ones I used just laid in the adapter so when I tried to put it into the Gnex it would just fall out and get stuck.

Gnex was notorious for that.

I use a nano to micro adapter for nexus 4 and use the same nano sim.

Did same for GS3. Just be careful.
