Hey guys,

I have been down this road many times before and have tried so many ways to block porn from my iphone so that there is noway I can get onto it. I have a porn blocking browser app called covenant eyes and it is a great browser, that coupled with restrictions that keep me from deleting or adding apps, blocking safari and all apps that have holes that allow me access to the web. This was helping me out a bit and then I ran into a HUGE LOOPHOLE!!! I can simply reset my iphone and happily watch porn for as long as I want. I need to block the settings app itself so that I can not simply reset my phone. I need some serious suggestions and help please no joshing around.

Thanks!

Guys, you need to watch certain amounts of porn and become immune to it.
Joking.
But seriously, this is a problem you need to solve yourself. Internet has porn around there. But you can control yourself to not watch it. My daily life is not just porn by the way, and so do many other people.

I think you need a jailbroken phone for that level of control.

The only other thing I can think of is use an email for your Apple ID that you don't have access to the email's password - set up a gmail account and have a trusted friend/family member set the password and keep it from you. Then use that as the Apple ID but also have the trusted friend/family member set the password for the Apple ID. Then if you reset your phone, it will be iCloud locked and you won't be able to unlock it without that family/friend telling you the Apple ID password. You also won't be able to reset the password b/c you don't know the gmail password either.

The only thing is that you need the friend/family member to log into that gmail account every few months to keep it active.

This is akin to being an alcoholic and asking someone to hide the liquor. Porn is easily accessible everywhere. You want it, you'll get it. An app isn't going to fix it.
But alcoholics who are earnestly trying to recover don't hang out in bars either.

The other thing he could do is switch to a basic phone and give up smartphones at least until he gets his issues under better control.

How about just doing something else whenever you get the urge? Turn the phone off for a while and do something else.
Obviously if he could do that he would. He isn't asking for people to be keyboard psychiatrists so those of you who are doing that, aren't helping him.

He specifically asked for ways to alter his iPhone so that he couldn't reset it. He didn't ask for random people who aren't licensed therapists to diagnose and treat him.

Yea I am seeking help, I am in a 12 step program for sex addiction, porn is but a part of my addiction. I have received this phone as my work phone which I am supposed to keep on me. I am open to jailbreaking as long as there is a clear way to make this phone protected.

Nor do they keep alcohol in their home which is what my analogy was alluding to.

This is along the lines of a better attempt to limit access. I agree. But it's only a small step.

Regardless, I think our sentiments are the same: We both would like this fellow to get help.

Again, good luck to him.

Thank you for your earnest suggestions, The simple fact is, I will have the phone, it is there, I cannot simply lock it away as I will be needing to use it for work. Jailbreaking seems like it would perhaps hold the answer, your suggestions seems like a good one, I will look into that.

Look, I'm not diagnosing or treating anything. You can't be your own getekeeper when you have an issue like this. If he has the ability to turn on a restriction he can turn it off, as he already learned and stated. You conveniently omitted that suggestion from the quote. Ideally he will get someone else to help through it.

Jailbreaking would be the only way to approach the level of control the OP is seeking.

And I understand that people may think it's funny, but studies are indicating that this addiction is particularly insidious. It's accessible easily and from almost anywhere. Try and imagine whatever your vice is (and we all have them) being that readily available. Not cool.

Best of luck to the OP, and if possible, follow the advice of getting someone else to lock out your phone from reset. It's not something you'd need to do often anyway, and it would solve your workaround. It may also convince your mind to not bother trying, as needing to reset would be a sign to whomever was helping you that you were being tempted.

Ok. Have you tried handing your phone off to a trusted friend and setting up restrictions? That should be a different password. Ratings should be able to be granular to apps, movies, safari, etc.

Think kid control but,

yea jailbreaking is not a real issue with my employer, if i ruin the phones warranty I will simply have to fill out a form and pay for the phone as if I broke it, that is if i dont have my sponsor reset it first back to factory settings. I am running the latest IOS, 10, My sponsor can hold onto the passwords to both accounts, Would I have access to turning on or off icloud settings though? because if i turn off icloud it would just reset without requiring an icloud password would it not? I only ask this basic question as i do not have the phone near me right now to look myself.

Check your work policies. You may not be able to jailbreak and your usage may be monitored. Good luck.

Bud, I say this with all seriousness and respectfully. You should look into help rather than electronic means of "curing" your addiction.

If you want to look at porn, you'll find a way. Go to the source: you.

Good luck to you.
I agree the world can't protect you from porn you have to protect yourself. All you have to do is look where people are isolated from the world if there's a will there's a way.
Of buy a chastity belt and loose the key.

First, I admire what you are going through and the dedication to your health that you are showing.

Could you set up restrictions and get someone else that you trust to pick the passcode?

Uh, no, your phone can't control your habits buddy. If you want to stop watching porn then force yourself to do that yourself. And I don't really understand the whole "sex addiction" thing. Are you so much addicted to porn that you can't live without it? If so then you may have some problems buddy.

Use a pic of your parents, as your wallpaper. Kinda hard to get into a porno when you know your Mom is staring at you, when you hit the home button

Jailbreaking would be possible on this phone if I went in and downgraded the IOS. My companies policies are not going to be an issue. I am willing to take my chances, I am just looking for serious answers, for those of you who are providing truly pertinent answers, I am truly thankful.

No jailbreak for that.

My sponsor can hold onto the passwords to both accounts,
Just make sure your sponsor logs into the gmail account every few months. You could set a reminder for once a month and text him to remember to log in. Google will shut down a dormant gmail account.

Would I have access to turning on or off icloud settings though?
No, you need the Apple ID password to sign out of iCloud on the phone. And if you reset the device without signing out of iCloud, you can't reactivate the phone without the Apple ID password.

Apple is no longer signing 9.3.3, which was the last jailbreakable iOS.
