Here is the deal. I am flying to Orlando next Friday for a conference and want to grab an iPad in one of the local Apple Stores. I called one of the stores and they told me I have to register in a waiting list. Did that last Monday but until now no confirmation E-Mail from Apple :-(

Since I will be only one day in Orlando (11th) I am considering other alternatives ...

Any suggestions? Is there any hope for me in getting one of these babies to Brazil?

Have you checked out the Mall at Millennia or the Altamonte Mall? Those are your very best bets. I don't know how available they are around here, though.

I picked up mine in Orlando about 5 weeks ago. I think I had to wait 4 days after registering, but I registered with three iTunes accounts in three shops.

Best of luck.

I asked if it would help to call the other Apple stores in the area and was told that all three stores are using the same registration list, so I didn't bother ...

Let´s hope for the best

They certainly did not. You have to use a separate itunes account as the previous registration gets overwritten by the later. My iPad came in at the store I signed up with second.

Hey therre

I live in Gainesville fl, an hour and a half away. If you're willing to drive to jacksonville you might get lucky. I drove there and they had some in stock when I got mine. It's about 3 hrs from Orlando so it's all about how much you want it if Orlando falls through

Thanks for the suggestion. I want it bad, but I also have work to do in Orlando

Let´s see if someone comes up with an alternative in the Orlando area ;)

Yes, but it could very likely show a different situation in terms of available stock by tomorrow. Good luck.

I am checking it every day (our :D) and I will call them tomorrow before I drive to the store in an attempt to do some kind of reservation ...

I want it really bad! I keep you posted.

E-Mail from Apple arrived today ... but ....

This can´t be true! After receiving the Apple E-Mail today with a confirmation that my IPad was available in the store for me to pick up (4 days after registration) I noticed my flight will arrive Friday 7:00pm in Orlando and my reservation is only valid till 9:00pm :(

I called the store and tried to expand it until Saturday morning but they told me that's not possible. Tried every lame excuse I could possible imagine but they blame on the computer registration system

Because my Best Buy store monitoring of the Orlando area is showing that they are really selling well around there, I will try to rush to the Apple store after my plane land ... let´s hope for no delays

It´s like being in a mission impossible movie!
I just hope I have a happy ending ;)

Which apple store? Florida Mall?

you should make it... it's basically across the street from the Airport.

If you are driving - park near the M&M Store (big M&M's outside), or tell your cab driver to go to that entrance. Then enter the Mall and go left.

Going to take more time to get to Millenia - depends on your driver. Park/Enter at the Valet area by the Cheesecake Factory and go to the right.

Good luck!

No, Millenia :-( I got the nearest store to my hotel before my flight was changed. Now I have to run ... Google Maps traced a 26 minutes route from the Airport to Millenia.

Thank you for the directions to find the store.

Go back to the airport for your luggage? What is the time factor of clearing customs?

It won't take 26 minutes. Heck, I live an hour away and I can vary that with like 10 minutes at the most between millenia, the Florida mall or the airport.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

Happy Ending!

It was tight, but thank to your directions (and good vibrations) I managed to arrive around 8:30 to the Millenia Apple Store and get my new iPad :)

Just for the record, my plan B was to go to a Best Buy store in the neighborhood. Two of them had Wifi iPads on stock.

Yahooooo!!!!! That is where I had thought you should be on the timeline from the airport. I didn't want to jinx you though and say no problem.

I was doing a similar time crunch cruise around Orlando, but just bouncing from target to target to toys r us and then needing to be down south by 6pm. I made it with 2 minutes to spare!

I had to hit the 3rd target on the way home yesterday -the one at millenia even, but at least my child has shorts to wear to camp this summer.

Anyway, enjoy the iPad!!!!!

Glad to see that your story ended happily. Florida must sell as many iPads to us tourists as locals!

While in the stores, I'm convinced it is MORE to tourists than locals!

Good for our economy though! Lol!! Thanks for supporting us :D

(for the record, I'm the local that while at Disney will offer to take a family pic, ask you how your trip is going and thank you for visiting... All around, the one that wants you to know that some of us locals do appreciate the tourists and want you to be able to have a good memory of central Florida and come back so i don't have to pay income tax!)

Good news. I'll be in Orlando on 1 July (before that, I'll be in Boston, then NYC) would I be better reserving my iPad before I travel with one of the Florida Apple stores - or when I get to Florida? I come home on 17 July.

If so, how do I reserve one?

Also - something I'm not clear on: i know Apple will activate it for me so I can use email/web until I can sync it with iTunes, but will I be able to access the App Store on it before I get home to the UK and sync it?

After all the trouble, I can't recommend Apples reservation system for non locals. You can't predict how long it will take, and worse, you have to pick it up one day after the confirmation E-Mail :(

From my experience, just check availability in the nearest Best Buy store and go for it. Good Luck!
