I thought is was a an April's fools trick. But no it is real, it just came up on the app store! I am so excited for the iPad! :)

I never doubted it, this is indeed a surreal moment for SJ. I have to say I am in total shock at what he has done. I wouldn't have believed that SJ could circumvent the deathgrip Flash had on video playback.

I have to say Im very surprised that Apple is allowing a Netflix app. I mean, doesn't this compete directly with the iTunes movie store? And by compete, I mean kill it? Now I know that Netflix doens't have all the latest movies on Instant Watch, but Im thinking they will have more and more as time goes on...I mean why wouldn't they? It's cheaper for them to stream then to mail things out isnt it?

Same here.

All I can say is I am definitely subscribing to Netflix now that it's on the iPad.

They have all 7 seasons of buffy on instant stream!

It doesn't kill it, because Netflix does not stream every movie and tv show under the sun.

However, it is an application that will provide a boost to the popularity of the iPad and really help move hardware. Which in turn will allow people to potentially buy other movies and such from Apple that they can't get streaming.

Of course they could rent them from Netflix as well on DVD... but it all works out in the end.

It is labeled as a content consumption device, and so it would be short-sighted for apple to cut off those avenues that will add to it being a massive instant success.

Now I actually believe an iPad version of the Amazon Kindle Reader will be available and allowed. I had been skeptical, but don't think so any longer.

This device is different from anything Apple has done since like 1979, and that is essentially create a marketplace for a brand new product. There are no other products or competitors in this space, so they need to do what they can to build it up as much as they can for themselves.

No they make more on the dvd's. But yes there streaming collection, will grow as they know it has too, if they want to stay in the game. Maybe apple is planning a subscription, based system too; I sure hope so. Regardless I don't care 1+ for apple for allowing netflix, I can't wait till I get my iPad

Any chance that Apple is getting something from Netflix for allowing them to do this? Like one poster above already said, they will not subscribe to Netflix just because the iPad supports it.

Any money that Apple loses by allowing Netflix on the iPad will surely be recouped by the additional hardware sales due to Netflix availability.

Well I'm surprised it was kept so secret. This is going to be a killer app for iPad. It'll be the first app I'm going to download. Be great for road trips. Don't have to load up so many movies now.

Very good point. And SJ probably knew that, that is why he allowed it.

Not really, Apple's iTunes store is to entice people to buy their hardware, the actual sale of movies, music etc... is a small piece of the profit pie. I think the last quarter, Q4 2009 it was around 12% of overall revenue to Apple. The hardware has much higher profit margins.

If a Netflix, or Hulu App creates more iPad sales, Apple is more than happy to have them in the app store.

Hardware is where Apple makes the bulk of it's profits, the app store is just icing on the cake. :)

I just DLed it too.

Not too impressed with Netflix streaming (usually older movies, shows, etc). But, it's a nice little add-on for some content when there's nothing else to do or you feel like exploring.

Netflix has quite a bit of new content, both movies and TV shows. Heck, Spartacus is available every Friday before the show even airs on TV. You can't get any newer than that!

Do you think Netflix will leave off the international ip check? Or do you think they will still implement it? I hope they could leave it off for the iPad, that would be so nice.

Is it possible to get a Netflix membership for online access only? I could care less about receiving DVD's in the mail. I am very excited about this.

I'm the same way. But it's cheap, unlimited streaming is $8.99 a month

Well, that's what I figure. I just looked at the online selection and it looked terrific to me. I saw lots of TV shows and movies I'd like to watch. Man, I can't wait until Saturday. This thing is going to drastically change how I use computers.
