This fixed it for me. :D I have this problem on an iMac with an external display using DisplayPort. Unplugging it doesn't let Netflix work, but deleting AirParrot did the trick.

It looks like someone used a quick and dirty method to detect screen grabbing software that could be used to record Netflix movies. Instead of allowing Netflix while they're not running, it simply blocks all HDCP playback if the software is even installed.

I don't see any mention of Netflix on the AirParrot site so it looks like we may be some of the first to figure this out. Please let me know if the fix works for you too.
i'm having this exact issue. has anybody figured out a fix? I have my TV plugged into my iMac and it use to play Netflix in Safari no matter what, but now (after installing Airparrot and then uninstalling) it only works if i have my TV on that input and i get a HDCP error if i have it on any other input.

Another route for HDCP solutoin

The other digital solution which will not downgrade the video and audio quality is using a TMDI-EDID emulator between TV and your AppleTV or MediaPlayer/Settop boxes, such as Roku, Kindle Fire TV, Kindle Fire Stick or even some using MacMini as a media player. The TDMS-EDID adapter is a HDMI EDID HDCP emulator and feeder to the source players which checking EDID and HDCP frequently. Hundreds of cases had been solved and proofed that the HDMI EDID emulator is simply working.

A large groups of engineer team had been using this solution internally to develop and test their software and hardware compatibility issues for their TVs, MediaPlayer, Set-top box and Media stick/dongles

I initially had this problem, but changed from Safari to Firefox.
It then asks to allow use of Silverlight, and everything seems great - so far...
Fingers-crossed.

Simple solution for Yosemite!

Enable Developer menu in safari (safari-preferences-advanced-last checkbox)
Now you have the new developer menu item on top and can change your user agent to "google chrome mac" and netflix will use silverlight and you'll be able to use it in a multi monitor setup!

Edit: Also works with El Capitan (where Safari won't even work on a single Monitor)

This has recently stopped working for me.

User agent chrome (mac and win) complain about a "missing component", saying to go to chrome://components

User agent firefox (win) says there was a "playback error".

And user agent firefox (mac), which is what I've used for months just stays on a black screen with nothing happening....

I've tried playing it on Chromium and Firefox, and neither work. I'm hesitant to install actual Chrome due to tracking.

Anyone else experiencing this and/or have a good solution?

What seems to be working for me now is if you go to Safari preferences > security > plug-in settings click on silverlight and turn it off. I would assume uninstalling it completely from your computer would do the same. Hopefully that helps

I've tried that and it's still the same issue.

I just ended up installing Chrome, and it works well there. With the added perk that when Netflix times out, it stays on the show/episode/place, instead of how on Safari it dumps you out into this black screen and you have to renavigate to the show you were on.

Temporary fix to this problem

Ok Guys,
I have been expeirienceing the same problems and so after quite a lot of communication with both Applecare and Netflix I have found out what the problem is and how to temporerily watch Netflix.
Netflix have'nt properly updated and made there site run in safari in OS X Yosemite, but if you download Google Chrome it works!!
Took me ages to find this out!! Anyways Apple are now aware of the problem and I am sure it will be fixed ASAP. Till then you will just have to watch Netflix in Chrome. Amazon instant Video and Youtube work fine in Safari...

Missen33 Thanks this works great. It took me 2 hours to find the solution to this. This is way stupid with Safari if you ask me. I am using Apple Airplay off my Mac to Apple TV. I know it worked before. So it's all good now. I wanted to connect two TV's to my Apple TV and I got that message that I was getting with Safari. Has anyone tried to connect two TV's thru Apple TV?????
