I had an error yesterday when using Safari 8. It didn't matter if Silverlight was installed or not, Netflix was unable to play video. It wasn't my internet because Chrome and Firefox were ok. Today I uninstalled Silverlight and tried again and it works now, using HTML5 of course. Maybe it was a temporary glitch in Netflix, you should try again today.

Just tried removing Silverlight completely and re-installing and still no go. Getting the same error.

I've have Netflix set to HTML5 but all it does is try to load and then Error Code S7361-1253.
Anybody else having any luck? Do i need to set something in Safari to enable HTML5?
I using 2012late Mac Mini.

Sandy Bridge is the first architecture to support Intel QuickSync, and I guess that Safari is relying on it to decode the stream. So I doubt that 'tricking the system' will do any good, it will probably result in a kernel panic. I suggest that you submit this as a bug to Apple.

I suspect it's because the earlier processors don't support a Trusted Execution Environment for the DRM.

Which will mean it isn't changing.

Just throwing in my 2 cents.

Tested and working in HTML5 on any i-series Mac I've tested it on.

Also have noticed significant drop in CPU use and related heat while using the HTML5 streamer.

Overall, VERY pleased with this change. Watching Netflix on my MBP used to be a joke when using Silverlight. If only more services would start incorporating this.

No go for me. I've cleared out silverlight, updated the netflix settings to HTML 5, and still get the error message.

Loving the Netflix playback on Yosemite with my Macbook Pro Retina! I actually get SUPER HD quality when using Safari (not on Google Chrome for some reason.) Quality is so smooth and clear, very impressed.

So how is the actual performance of Netflix now that we don't need silverlight?

Felt noticeable smoother and more responsive. Really loving this new Safari, I just hope ABP gets sorted soon.

Super HD? As in 4k? Pretty certain that's not possible for two reasons; No Intel chip currently supports native HEVC (h.265) decoding and secondly I believe it's only available on select 4k TV's currently.

I really want to test out 4k on this Retina display and believe me I've tried and read up on watching 4k Netflix but to no avail.

I found a fix for the S7361-1253 error code. I know this is not optimal but if you go to your profile then playback settings and uncheck the "Prefer HTML5 Player Instead of Silverlight", everything works like normal.

SuperHD is Netflix's term for higher bit-stream 1080p quality, it is not related to 4K. Basically, there are two separate 1080p quality levels. If your bandwidth is capable of 7Mbps or up, you'll get the SuperHD quality on supported media. If it is below that, you just get the lower-quality 1080p or worse.

In the past, it was only available to ISPs that was on Netflix's OpenConnect program but Netflix made it available to everybody recently.

Thanks! Anyway of telling which version I'm watching? On a 152Mb connection here.

It doesn't play without Html5 checked. It wants Silverlight installed.
I called Netflix about it and according to the engineer I talked to it is a Beta problem with Yosemite and Apple has not furnished them codes for it yet. I did a bug report to Apple.

This is the same behavior I experience. If I uncheck "prefer HTML 5," it says I have to install Silverlight.

Running 802.11n from a 100 down connection, Netflix's Example Short reports 5800 kbps at 1920x1080. No idea if my hardware (MBA Mid-2011) is limiting it to that quality tier, or if it's between my ISP and Netflix's CDN.

(see: http://www.wired.com/2014/06/netflix-streaming-test/)

Occasionally, I'll get a "Whoops" error from Netflix with a similar error code, even in the middle of a perfectly good quality stream–no signs of quality degradation, stuttering, nor buffering before it happens.

Does anyone know how to go into the HTML5 settings on netflix? (similar to how silverlight had some settings/statistics available)

Account/Playback settings
Edit: Oops, sorry, looks like you were looking to adjust settings, not just check the "prefer HTML5" box. Apologies.

I don't know how it looked in silverlight, but while researching SuperHD on Netflix, I discovered the Control-Option-Shift-S keyboard command to force settings in their HTML5 player.

Thats what I was looking for! Thanks! It looks like you can force it into a bitrate of 5800 (up from the previous max of 3000).

Anyone having problems getting the HTML5 player in Netflix to automatically buffer higher quality video in DP5?

In previous releases the video would buffer till it reached SuperHD quality. But in DP5 the video just stays at the quality it was loaded in till you manually forced it to load at the higher bitrate. Its definitely not a bandwidth problem because the transfer rates I'm observing from iStatMenus are well beyond what is required from Netflix.

Only observed this on DP5, no problems with DP1-4 and Beta1.

Ok so I'm running Yosemite public beta and I've gotten it to work by disabling the option to use HTML5 setting in account settings on netflix.com. It works every time when disabled, but once I re-enable it and try to play a video I get this error message S7361-1253.
