Bought a 12.9" Wi-Fi for delivery on launch day. Decided in the end I wanted an LTE model so returned it. Regretting it a bit now as it was perfect.

1st LTE had a dead pixel so returned that.
2nd LTE I opened today is bent. Properly bent.

I've never returned an Apple product before these issues, had many. Now I don't actually mind returning and buying a new one as I live in a large city and it isn't that much hassle. However, the question is will Apple at some point say you can't keep returning and buying the same item?

Thanks.

I’m wondering if LTE is more prone to being bent out of the box or its the way they cram the radio in there and assemble the cellular model

Way more antenna lines,

Wifi doesnt have bottom strip or side strips, just the top

I’d say no. I’ve never had a fault Apple device myself, but if you keep seeing issue after issue, I wouldn’t buy those products again. That may be just me though.

It's an incredible difficult position to be in, as you want the product, you just want it right.

I went through 5 iPhone 5's starting on launch day due to dust accumulating in the rear camera, when I investigate the people who also upgraded around me, their phones usually had dust too, in the end I jumped ship from IOS to Android because I just couldn't deal with it anymore. Went back when the 6 came out and haven't had a problem, but I'm always scared something like it will happen again.

I'd imagine it would be even worse decision on an iPad, Android phones are at least sorta on par with iPhones, tablets however...

Absolutely not. I literally returned and repurchased about 20 iPad Air 2s because of backlight bleed and the disgusting bookspine effect. I ended up not keeping an iPad Air 2 as I gave up and concluded every unit had it. But I was never told I had a limit on my returns. The trick is to always complete a return and then repurchase a second unit—don’t ask to exchange it. If you straight up return a unit they need to take your return if it’s within 14 days of purchase.

I’d try again. I really like my 12.9”. It’s nowhere near as sturdy feeling as my 1st gen, but I’m content with treating it with extra care to benefit from its many strengths, no pun intended.

I agree with you. I have the new 12.9” and of course I’m being more delicate than with other iPads I had (although it’s fustrating considering the build quality of old iPads). But what about when we put it in a backpack? It’s ridiculous to be scared about putting a tablet in a backpack when you travel. That’s what pisses me off the most in this whole situation.

Dear god can you people stop complaining? Just buy one of these, delicately place your iPad in it, and forget about it :D

Thanks for all the replies, in particular @Octoberist. I am going to keep trying until I get a perfect one as I think it's a fantastic device.

Good luck on your next attempt. I would recommend opening and inspecting the device in-store just in case. They shouldn’t give you any hassle.

I guess. If I returned a product and the 2nd had the same problem, I wouldn't buy it at that point and I would consider a different brand altogether. I suppose that's just me though.

The only problem with going to a different brand is that you give up the Apple ecosystem, which is a huge deal for some (including me). If one has purchased a lot of apps etc. then it is not as easy a decision to walk away from Apple. That is something that I believe is unique to Apple products. My brother just bought a 2018 12.9 iPad and had to go through a few until he finally got a screen that didn't have dark spots on it.

Yea, I get the ecosystem part, but what good is an ecosystem if every product you buy has a problem with it. It just makes very little sense to me personally.

With the increased need to be protective of these new iPad Pros, when does the pendulum swing back in the other direction where a Macbook makes more sense than the iPad Pro (for those who had replaced their macOS notebook with an iPad)?

If these super-thin iPad Pros need to be put in bulkier protective cases and deliberately placed in backpacks to avoid potential bend/flex, will they be more burdensome to transport than a macbook that can simply be slipped into a backpack's laptop pocket without any additional protection?

I think it's valid to consider today, as is. I have been using my iPad Pro since release day with the smart folio, throwing it in and out of my backpack without issue, but if a product is bending under normal use - they should absolutely consider getting a MacBook instead. I can't see why they wouldn't.

Send it back. It probably has the “warped aluminum” issue, which you can find in another thread. I had the same problem, the click sound was caused by the warped aluminum in the 12.9 on the lower right backside.
Doesn't seem to be warped, but the sound is coming from that area...like the natural area your right hand fingers grip the back in portrait mode. I normally have it in the folio but still for the price...
Would have a chance to get to the apple store on Wednesday lunchtime.

Edit: Made a run to the Apple store and was able to do an exchange even though I'm a week out a 14days....all good now...no click on the back...everything else looks good with it.

Swaped mine as well because of clicking sound. When lying on a table, using the iPad makes a noise like the tape or glue inside the iPad is let Loose. Second one seems fine.( iPad Pro 11 512gb cellular)

I've had nearly every iPhone, the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 9.7 pro and now 12.9 pro iPads, and several Macs, and I've never had an issue with any of them. Perhaps I have been lucky, but I'm telling you all these bend issues on the new iPads are making me nervous.

Why should that make you nervous? Shouldn't your firsthand experiences have a greater influence on how you feel?

I've never had any ill experiences with any of the Apple products that I've bought (at least not until a few years into ownership) and although I'm not interested in these new iPad Pros at all, but if I were, I'd have no worries.
