Sadly Im in work so I cant play with it

may pick up a white HDMI cable on the way home. Will update with impressions after I have set it all up and played with it for a bit :D

Anyone else received theirs yet?

What are the specs on yours?

I am waiting on Best Buy to get them in so I can exchange the one I bought on the 3rd. :)

Still waiting for mine - went for the 2.6GHz server in the end to save the hassle of searching for a 2nd HDD cable (cant seem to get it easily in the UK!), buying another drive, and so on.

Ordered my RAM seperate as well.

Not sure whether to put a SSD in it or not - guess there is no need for it in a headless server!

I ordered the base model, its my first mac and I dont plan to do any gaming on it whatsoever. The only upgrade I plan to do is swap the ram to 16GB from Crucial.

Could you please do a stress test and see how loud the fans are under heavy load? I'm very interested in that as it is clearly a new fan design.

I ordered 8GB rather then 16GB - should be fine for my needs so didnt see the need in spending extra fo something I probably wont need.

Will do. I will have a lot of setting up to do as I plan to migrate from my Windows 7 PC to the Mac as my main desktop machine. There is so much to consider to get myself all set up on what is basically a completely alien OS to me

I'm doing the same transition. I've been wanting to switch to Mac for a while and now i'm just waiting for my new Mini to arrive tomorrow.

Its exciting, yet scary at the same time!

----------

Mine has arrived but like you I'm also at work!

I ordered the base model and will upgrade the memory later.

Its been a long day but Im nearly at the end of a 10hr shift now so I will get to set it up in the next couple of hours :D

Well I got round to setting everything up last night, and first impressions are great! Spent most of the evening exploring Mac OSX, performing updates etc. Runs very cool and silent. So much better than my noisy PC.

However, The screen Im currently using is a 7 year old Samsung 720p HDTV connected via HDMI. This will HAVE to go! Its just not up to the job, and Im left with an image that looks low rez and text is jagged. I kind of expected it as its a) a TV not a monitor and B) its very old.

I dont have the option of buying an expensive monitor at the moment so was considering this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Ultras...MFJA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1351151557&sr=8-2

For the price it seems decent, anyone have any experience with these?

Yes - excellent monitors. I might suggest actually checking out the Dell Outlet for refurbished models. So far all of my monitors have been refurb Dells and I have been quite happy with all of them.

Thanks for the advice, the reviews are generally fantastic for as monitor of this price.

I have the U2311H connected to my mini - works great! I had the 2012 and 2011 mini's (both base models) side by side last night while I copied everything over and the 2012 is much faster. I'm glad I decided to swap the 2011 for the 2012.

Ah so it works well with the mac mini then?

I presume you used the provided DVI cable and connected it to the adapter that comes with the mac mini plugged into the HDMI port?

What resolution does the mac mini run in with this monitor?

Sorry for the extreme n00b questions :/

Yep, no problems at all.

No, the 2311H has a displayport connector so I've connected it to the thunderbolt port (I already had a spare cable). I plan on using the HDMI port to connect it to the TV so it can be used as media hub.

The 2311H is a 1080p monitor so it supports a max resolution of 1900 x 1080 which is well within the mini's capabilities.

No problem, feel free to ask more - I always spend ages researching before spending my money. :D

Can you expand on this connection method, is there a standard cable that goes from mini displayport > thunderbolt port? or does this require some sort of adapter?

Thanks again for the info, its all making things a little easier ;)

The monitor has a display port connector, the thunderbolt port is in the form of a mini displayport connector on Macs. Using a mini displayport to displayport cable (here) will allow video signals to be transferred between the mini and the monitor. It leaves the HDMI port free for second monitor if you wish. If you don't want to buy an extra cable then using the HDMI adapter to connect to the DVI port of the monitor will also give you excellent results.

I already had the cable lying around from when I was connecting my MBP to the Dell.

Thanks for the link, if I were to go this route, how is audio handled?

The built in speaker in the mini - you can get a sound bar to attach to the monitor or external speakers (use the audio out to connect) if you wish.
