Just to add .. I gave up due to the yellow monitors .. I am about to try again with the new retina ..

Don't like yellow monitors? Just calibrate them with a ColorMunki display or Spyder Pro.

No. If it's uneven then you have an issue. If it's yellow all over then it's just a change of colour profile that's needed.
Tbh if you want a consistent backlight go for an Eizo or NEC spectaview. That's what I have connected to my iMac for my photography.
