Update:
After two exchanges the 3rd one now indeed is quiet!!
Lots of trouble and inconveniences, but finally worth it.

Hi Mac did yours whir up when turning on or coming out of sleep? Like a fan speeding up and in like a second it staying at max. Mine isn't a buzz from the brightness.

Seagate hard drives are dead silent (at least on my new 2010 iMac)

Hitachi hard drives....make rattle,clunk,hum noises

Statistics say it's the other way round! Seagate drives are the loudest while the Hitachi and the WD are the quietest.

I've got the Hitachi 2TB HDD along with the SSD and the Hitachi is completely silent.

No my #1 and #2 were permanently humming from the beginning. Sounded like a transformer. Not very loud but annoying...

The Seagate 1TB drives of my #1 and #2 iMac were really loud,
but the Seagate 1TB in my #3 now is silent!! Weird...

So with the current iMac when you turn it on or come out of sleep, nothing spins up a second later and stays on constantly vibrating? If I lifting up off the desk you can no longer hear it.
