New 27" iMac mouse skipping

I have the new 27" iMac and love it. I started noticing when moving the mouse the cursor jumps across the screen. I have a 2nd monitor connected via mini display port to DVI adapter. It seems to be fine if the adapter and 2nd monitor are disconnect. I found several posts on the net with reference to a similar problem only with the Macbook pro and a 2nd monitor.

Has anybody else found this problem with the new iMac?
I'm half tempted to run with the single monitor since it is so big but it just bugs me when something doesn't work like it should.
 
Mouse skips with dual monitor DVI connection

I bought a Monoprice cable to connect an Acer x203H to the Mini Display Port on the back of my new 27" imac. As soon as the cable is connected (the monitor doesn't even have to be powered on) the mouse starts skipping. The USB mouse I am using along with the Magic Mouse is Logitech G9. The problem is worse on the Logitech mouse than the Magic Mouse but it effects both. I called Apple and we tried a VGA connection using an Apple adapter and the problem went away. The next step will be to try the Apple DVI adapter instead of the Monoprice cable. It is either the cable, the Acer monitor or just the fact that there is a digital connection that is causing this. Apple said there is nothing in their database about this problem.:confused:
 
Mouse skips with dual monitor DVI connection

Anyone with this problem use Mzoom to speed up the mouse? I wonder if that is part of the problem. The display looks so good with the VGA adapter I haven't been to the Apple store to get a DVI adapter yet. I will soon though...
 
New 27 iMac mouse skipping

Good evening, first post on MacRumors.

I v exactly the same problem connecting my Eizo CG243 to my new Imac received yesterday. Eizo connected to iMac via displayport to displayport.
As soon as the minidisplay port is connected the magic mouse starts skipping.
Troubleshooting:1 same with mighty mouse.2 Checked the displayport cable connecting the Eizo with Macbook pro no problem...

Any advice ?

I have the official Apple MDP->DVI adaptor. Mine is fine when the other monitor is on but I dont always turn it on if I am just browsing the internet or reading email.

I have a 3rd Part MDP-> VGA. I will try that out.

Yes it was the Apple DVI adapter.
I have since fixed the problem. My first solution was to switch to the VGA adapter (Apple)with the same monitor (dual input). It worked fine. I later replaced the monitor with a LG monitor and decided to try the DVI adapter again and the problem was gone. It must have something to do with the way the monitor handles the DVI.
 
Imac 27 mouse skipping in dual screen mode

Tks jsfpa . I dont no what to do because my external monitor (eizo) works perfectly connected to macbook pro via dsp. when connected to my 27 Imac the mouse is not reliable anymore (skipping all around).....

Any return would be much appreciate.

So, this may sounds kinda silly? but what kind of surface are you using the mouse on? If it's overly shiny, lifting the mouse up slightly will send the curser flying across the screen.

Could that have something to do with your issue?

Tks for your suggestion but no because when i disconnect the external monitor the mouse work like a charm.
 
my friend is having the same problem with his 27" imac. disconnected the external monitor and the mouse stops skipping. happens even for an usb mouse.
 
I have my 24" LED Cinema Display connected to my 27" iMac and I'm not experiencing any obvious skipping on my Logitech MX Performance Revolution mouse (or whatever the hell it's called).

What kind of skipping are we talking about?
 
Same problem here. Connected my 27" to a Samsung 24"-Display with Apples MDP->DVI-Adapter. The mouse is skipping randomly.

An official fix by apple via software update would be very very welcome^^

Don't bother, i have been in a WAR with apple because of this issue. No Dice. Their solution is: bring it in let us open it up and take a look at whats wrong.
 
Same problem here and I have no external monitor connected.

It's not the mouse and it's not the mousing surface because it behaves perfectly when I boot into windows.
 
Same exact problem here.

I tried three different mice - Apple's Magic mouse (Bluetooth), HP Laser mouse (USB) and Evoluent VerticalMouse 3 (USB). All of them exhibited the exact same problem - the cursor would jump all over the screen incessantly.

I never tried unplugging the external display (using aftermarket Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter, and Acer 24" screen), but immediately after doing so, all three mice worked great.

Go figure.

Looks to be a software bug to me...
 
I just ran into this same exact problem today. I just changed my setup with my iMac 27 inch. I bought it last winter when they came out and hooked up a second Dell 27 inch monitor and later also added a third Dell 24 inch monitor using a DisplayLink USB to DVI adapter.

I never had any problems at all with the mouse and have used 3 different logitech laser mice as well as the magic mouse with this same setup. I had to rearrange my office this last weekend and lost most of my desk space, so I hooked up a second monitor using a 20 inch Acer. As soon as I fired the iMac up, I noticed this strange annoying skipping of the mouse pointer. After trying 2 other different mice and having the same problem (only difference was that with the magic mouse, I noticed the skipping only on the Acer monitor and with the others using Logitech ones, it skipped on both screens. The Acer monitor didn't really even fit well next to the iMac given the size and quality differences so I just removed it and stuck with the original 27 inch iMac monitor by itself. The skipping was gone right after this so my guess is that the mouse can't adapt to the 2 high differences of resolutions.

I joined the MAC world with a 27incher. I noticed after about 2 months thta the mouse started skipping quite badly and it was getting to the point it was un usable. I rang Applecare and they told me the mouse was stuffed. I had told them I have tried another magic mouse and a brand new (dare I say it) microsoft mouse and the problem was still there. I read this forum and noticed about the second monitor. My viewsonic is attached with a genuine apple dvi adapter and when i unplugged it the problem went away. I'm at 10.6.4 and reset my hardware and all my updates are up to date but its a bit of a pain... does anyone have suggestions or should I forward a link to this forum to applecare?

Help would be much appreciated please.

I am having this same problem as well. I have been using an Apple
MDP->VGA adapter, but recently made the switch to MDP->DVI (Apple branded as well) when I purchased a new monitor with DVI input. The mouse issue began right away. If I use my older MDP->VGA adaptor with the new monitor the mouse is fine again....


This needs fixed as the iMac is not very usable with the mouse behaving like this. I was going to call AppleCare, but its not likely they are going to be able to do anything ;-)

Hi All,
I rung apple care and got put through to a very friendly engineer. Told him what was up after having done all the usual trouble shooting. He spoke to his supervisor and my call was the first report of this happening. The took ALOT of details out of my mac and screen model numbers etc to simulate the same thing in their lab. They came back with another suggestion in the troubleshooting steps and with that the fault still occured. SO DONT WORRY MY MOUSE CONFUSED FRIENDS they are sorting it out.

I'll bookmark this page so I can keep ya up to date.

my solution

I have had the exact same issue on my recent 27" iMac that occurred with a magic mouse, wired mighty mouse and wired logitech mouse.

The solution ended up being something completely unintuitive: turn airport off. I'm still connected to the same network via an ethernet connection, so it isn't a hack or virus. My airport card was turned on and the menu bar item was visible, but I had not joined a network.

I assume that the airport menu bar refreshing when searching for networks must have been part of the problem.
