I just got off the phone with apple care and they have no fix for this. The guys was nice, but he was trying to pretend he didn't know about the problem haha.. When I confronted him with this website, he then acknowledged that it people are working on and we should get it fixed in 10.6.5! So we'll see, it also looks like it mainly has a problem with mini display to DVI. Hold tight everyone, Apple always does their job!

Solved...kinda

I posted awhile back in this thread abut the issues I was having with my new 27" iMac and the DVI adaptor. I just thought I would give an update that I had SOLVED the problem (sort of). I went and bought a third party adaptor from amazon ($6). While I was skeptical initially, it finally arrived and guess what??...the skipping is gone! It is obviously a problem in with Apple's adaptor. IDK if they will be able to fix it with an OS update, but I finally have one that works now. Too bad I am stuck with a 1st party $30 adaptor that is useless now. I can't remember the brand off the top of my head...I will have to look at the amazon receipt. Interested if anyone else has had success with third party adaptors?

Not the Apple adapter

I am using a third party adapter, and I still have the problem.

same deal here. 27" imac, apple MDP2DVI adapter , mouse all over the place. have tried 4 mice, disabling airport, deleting might mouse...no luck. This sucks an is completely unusable.

Hi everyone. I realize this thread is for the iMac, but I'm having the exact same issue with my MacPro! Just a simple Google search seems to show this an on-going problem with across many Mac platforms:

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2130243&start=0&tstart=0

Anyway, my current setup is a 2010 6-core MacPro hooked up to an HP ZR24W via Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort , and a LG W2252TQ via DVI to DVI.

If I turn off the LG, my mouse skips like crazy on the HP. However, if I leave on both monitors, I have no problem at all. Consequently, if I only have the LG on via DVI, there is no mouse stutter.

It would seem that this is definitely a Mini DisplayPort issue that Apple needs to address. My second monitor is primarily used for video editing, and I'd rather not have it on all the time. And to think Apple strives to be energy efficient...

Same thing for me.. 27" i7 and Samsung T220. I got the Dynex Mini Display Port to DVi Adapter from Best Buy (DX-AP170) as it was $10 less than the Apple's model. It works fine for awhile then the mouse is all over the place. It's not the mouse - removing the adapter stops the skipping. Everything I have read on the subject is to use the VGA adapter instead of the DVI adapter. Why the DVI has problems I don't know (a syncing problem I guess)... it's strange because it will work for a while then start skipping so for now it appears the the VGA adapter is the answer.

I'm also experiencing this and had to move back to the Magic Mouse, which doesn't do it. Both of my Logitech laser mice were unusable.

Hey guys,

To everyone who has this problem (me included although mine isn't as severe as some others)

Go here, and fill out the questions. It takes 30 seconds and be sure to include your system profile (by going to Apple -> About This Mac -> More Info and then copy and paste everything under the "hardware" column so the tech support can see what system you are running.

http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html

Be sure to include that this happens with external displays.

I get this occasionally with a second display connected and I only get it with Logitech mice. Its not near as severe as some users have but its a pain in the ass if it happens when I am selecting vertices in Maya :(

Oh, and on a side note, I notice it the most when I have something graphically intensive open or if I'm doing rendering.

I use the Apple mouse and it's skips with a 2nd monitor connected via the Mini Display DVI adapter so I don't believe it's mouse related.

Well, that is strange, because it started when I hooked up my second monitor, using said adapter, skipped like crazy with both of my Logitech mice, and then stopped when I disconnected them and started using the BT Magic Mouse again.

Yes it's a very strange problem - my guess is that after some time the problem will come back even with the Apple BT Mouse. Mine was OK for a week or longer then it started skipping. I unplugged the Mini DVI adapter restarted and everything was OK again. Later I set up the 2nd monitor again and it again was OK for several days before it started skipping.

When I said it wasn't "mouse related" of course it is, but I meant that the type of mouse used doesn't appear to entirely solve the problem. I haven't tried the VGA adapter yet because I share the 2nd monitor with a PC using the VGA port on the monitor... however people say that using the VGA monitor port vs. the DVI port seems to do the trick.

I got the same problem. Using a Asus 22" display.

But have you guys tried booting up in windows. NO SKIPPING! :) (Try it out and give me some feedback)
So the problem must be in the OS... Thats weak by :apple:

I also got mouse skipping when using my Razer Copperhead when NOT using second display. I've done some research and found out that OS X have a problem with higher polling rates than 125 Hz.

Apple! FIX!

I just connected my new Sharp Aquos Quattron 46" LED TV to use as a 2nd display when watching movies with PLEX.

I noticed that if the TV is on or not, i get a noticeable mouse skip. If i unplug the HDMI adapter ( bought from monoprice ) then the skip goes away.

This is on a late 2009 i7 imac, using HDMI/Display port adapter.

Funny thing is this, i connected it about 2 weeks ago and never noticed any skip ( i also have not used my TV to watch movies on from my mac ) but today when i watched something, and then turned it off i noticed it. I dissconnected the adapter and all was fine, reconnected the adapter ( and left TV OFF ) and the skip came back...

Its not what brand adapter you use
Its not what mouse is being used

We have that figured out...Why still no fix?

Some say use VGA but i use a 15' HDMI cable and already wired it up, I am not about to drop the cash for a 15' VGA cable and rewire my TV.

Apple, whats the problem?

I have an iMac 27" and a Panasonic TXP50S20B 50" Plasma that I use for Plex like you, connected via a third party mini displayport to HDMI adapter... For the first time a minute ago I noticed this happen right after I finished watching a movie in Plex and switched over to watch digital TV. Went on the mac and it was jerking all over the place and when I went of Facebook to play on a silly game that i'm addicted to it was juddering all over the place. Any sounds the game would make would freeze in the moment of the mouse jerk also. At first I thought there was something seriously wrong and rebooted the mac in the hope it was just hot or something. Well that didn't work, so I googled the fault and eventually landed here. I found that by turning the TV back to HDMI 3 where the mac is connected that it worked fine again... So I then switched the TV back to TV and after switching back it's been fine...

Odd, but I guess it has to be something to do with the Mac not getting correct communication from the digital connection between itself and the TV... I really don't know but like I said the above method worked for me. :)

Issue solved for some in OS X 10.6.6

I had this issue with iMac 27", DVI connection to Benq monitor and every mouse I tried. The issue only happened when the 2nd monitor was plugged in by DVI.

For me the issue was solved by the OX X 10.6.6 (app store) update.

I'm responding to this thread because the post before mine states that the skipping happens when the second monitor is off. That's the case with my setup as well.
