Not quite the same. If you buy a car that advertises 23mpg, and it gets 22mpg, do you get to turn it in for a new one? No. Why? Because there's a certain fault tolerance.

Thats a different analogy. Effectively a stuck pixel is a just a little mark on the screen, it hasn't anything to do with the computer workings.
Were as if it was something such as a HD taking longer to boot up from, that directly affects the productivity of the computer.

I'm referring here to the productivity of the technology, not of the productivity of a person who works with photos etc, were pixels are an issue.

well if you only got 2 then consider yourself lucky

i just got my brand 24 new imac today and it has about 15 stuck pixels on the bottom left and about 5-10 other scattered throughout the screen.. completely dissapointed.. im going to have to send this one back and wait again for a new one.. this really sucks.. sadly this is the most ive ever seen on an lcd anywhere :(

I wonder what state it left the factory in, because 15 should certainly fail any quality control test..?

I bought mine from Saudi Arabia 3 weeks ago
and i had same problem .. just in the right corner almost below the clock
it was red as u said .. comes and goes

now after 3-4 weeks it just went away ! .. i though about the wallpaper but seems not.. did nothing just being using it since at 24/7 and gone ! :D

hope u can fix it, Good Luck

i dunno.. i asked the support tech about how they test for bad pixels.. basically he said he couldnt answer that but he hinted at they dont really. I guess i have really bad luck.

My god, its full of stars

Got my 24" BTO iMac today, checked the screen with different color backgrounds to look for dead and/or stuck pixels. What I found was very disappointing. With a solid black background my screen had HUNDREDS of pin point stuck pixels. Some blue and some red. If I use the Apple supplied Earth wallpaper as the desktop background it looks like it has a starry background. Much worse on the right half of the screen then the left. I also had one dead pixel in the upper right area.

Called Apple and they are sending me some return labels to send it back for replacement of the computer. Oh well, back to the waiting game...

Those of you with only a stuck pixel or two should consider yourselves lucky!

Couldnt agree more

ever since the new macs theres been so much problems with the screen espically has apple of gotton cheaaper? whats going on here

I returned two my screen bleeds were bad, and dead pixels on both...Come on. I asked for a refund. There is a serious quality control problem with China....Im debating to go MacPro....

I am going to bring my 24" 3.06Ghz iMac into the local Apple tech shop over lunch today and see what they say. My rig DOES have the odd backlighting issue. The left hand side of the screen is markedly brighter than the right side -- it almost looks like you have a spotlight shining on the left hand side. If I set the desktop background to a solid gray or green colour, it is definately noticeable.

The Apple support folks that I spoke with say that they will not take it back unless it is looked at by an Apple tech first (just to prove my claims I guess). I did call the shop here and the guy mentioned that they have never replaced a screen due to a backlighting problem. From my perspective, if they do replace the backlight, I won't be bringing it home from the shop unless the new panel is 100% perfect (and has no stuck pixels).

If I am not happy with what the tech shop says, I will call Apple back and give them another blast of crap I guess.

Hi folks:

I did drop off my machine over lunch and they just called to say that they WILL be replacing the LCD panel in it on Monday. As I have two issues (1 stuck red pixel and the backlighting problem), he said that the backlighting issue was what they determined to be the "more critical" problem and warranted replacing the display. And he did politely mention that a screen would need "at least 4 dead/stuck pixels" for them to be able to replace it under warranty.

I will drop in on the way home and grab my iMac so that I can have it for the weekend. Hopefully, the new screen does not have any stuck pixels. With my luck, the new screen will have 3 stuck pixels.

One thing I did not know was that you cannot return (for a refund) any config to order boxes -- I upped the RAM in my 3.06 to 4GB and opted for the wireless mousicle. They will only offer exchanges for identical machines only.

there's a good chance if you email sjobs@apple.com they will give you a refund. a year ago i had a config to order macbook pro and i emailed and someone from headquarters called me. we tried replacements but i just wasn't happy with the screen quality. so he gave me a full refund. Whether you are or not, act like you are a video, photo, graphic professional and can not accept dead pixels.

you'll find the absolute best customer service through that email.
