I heard that too! Finally. Can't wait to download. Hopefully soon (today?).

The HUD looks much more narrow. I hope they bring better Wacom Tablet support. It's already hard enough to grab the already tiny adjustment sliders.

Need brush support and more adjustment specific shortcuts to use with Wacom tablets and MIDI boards for physical controls.

My worry is he mentioned it in conjunction with the mac pro, so it might not be available until they start shipping :(

Downloading now!…...

…Just kidding.

I suspect it will be a soft release at the same time as the Mac Pro

I suppose it is still a good thing to hear New Aperture...I can wait until the Mac Pro comes out for it.

Well, it might not be available today, but at least we know it's coming for sure.

I'll bet it gets released on a random Wednesday in November or something.

Yeah, I'm guessing it ships quietly between now and the Mac Pro release. So we got a month and a half at worst, and maybe later today at best. We've waited so long so whats 6 weeks?

Uhm. Sorry to point this out, but this looks exactly like Aperture 3 on a 4k display, with the HUD docked right. There's nothing new on that shot that I can't see on Aperture 3.

He also mentioned a new version of Final Cut Pro for the Mac Pro.

Lots of good stuff coming it seems. The only question is a 4k display..

Yeah, that shot is clearly Aperture 3.x in full screen mode with the HUD on the right, docked. I use a similar layout, but keep my HUD docked on the left. Clearly doesn't look like an Aperture 4 new feature shown in that image. :(

It's not "clearly Aperture 3.x". It's plausible it's Aperture 4 considering Phil mentioned new versions of Aperture and FCPX.

Just because it looks like Aperture 3 doesn't mean it's Aperture 3. All we can tell is that it's Aperture. It could be Aperture 4, Aperture 3, or even Aperture 2. There's not usually drastic UI changes when apps are updated. From far away, would you be able to tell the difference between LR4 and 5? Or PS CS5 and PS CS6?

Phil mentioned that it was a 4k monitor, so that probably explains how tiny it looks.

^ In that case I'm convinced that we have a false alarm.

Still, the question isn't "if" but "when". Apple has clearly not abandoned Aperture. With two of the three Pro apps taken into an X version complete rewrite, Aperture is without a doubt headed there too.

Schiller said a "new version" of Aperture is coming. Does he mean the 3.5 update that came out today, or something else?

The photographer himself confirmed that it's definitely Aperture 3.5 in an interview with 9to5mac.

He explains that he's only had the mac pro for about a week, and specifically says "The new 3.5 version of Aperture and Mac Pro seem to be really tuned to work together."
Presumably he got a pre-release version of Aperture3.5 as well.

You can read the full interview here:

That's more than a bit disappointing. I'm happy to have a free new Aperture point release, but whether it's a free or paid update we need more features than this.

My workflow has become a comical series of running a daisy-chain of plugins and managing the resulting bulky files that are generated.

I said this in another thread and I'll say it again here: He was specifically and intentionally asked about Aperture 3.5. This was not a mistake; it has the approval of Apple PR all over it. Nowhere has he said that what was shown in the video was Aperture 4 or 3.5.

I'm not saying Aperture 4 actually exists; I have no idea. But it is clear that Aperture is not dead; there's no way Apple would give any version of it this much spotlight if that were the case. It's a matter of when, not if. It will come, randomly and quietly.

Well, kind of. They asked him specifically about Aperture 3.5 to lead him to talk only about 3.5.

If there is in fact a new version of Aperture, his NDA would prevent him from discussing it; this question is worded specifically to avoid it.

I have to think 9to5Mac is savvy enough to know that people are speculating a new version based on the keynote and would outright ask him to address the question if it was something he could answer.
