The UPS thing has been universally condemned in the design field as a really bad move. It's certainly not "timeless" anymore. It's going to look very old in a few years. The Apple with the lighting effect will feel dated as well, IMHO.

I guess the change to the apple doesn't seem like a big deal to me because the apple is still the logo it's just a different color. How many times has Apple changed the color of the apple? I think the shape is the important part of their logo not the color.
