Walked by the still-not-open store in Churchill Square today with a friend and noticed light coming from under the black 'security' door. Since the iPhone camera is on the edge of the phone I managed to sneak a pic at floor level from under the door. I rather like the irony of undermining Apple secrecy with an Apple product.

As you can see, the Genius bar light is up and running, and it looks as though its going to be a reasonably large store.

Cheers

Matt

As you can see, the external hoardings are down now, but the windows are still blacked out and the logo is under wraps.

I don't know if it's just me, but the exterior has something of a 'Unibody' look to it??? Can't be too long now.

That is not a security door - that is simply the plastic covering on the glass windows/door that they have to remove when they open - it is to protect the glass although I am sure it acts doubly to stop people seeing in that is not its purpose.

I actually applied for a job here and had an interview - I didn't get it - which is a shame as I would have loved to work for Apple and I am pretty knowledgable about the iPhone (writing the jailbreaking tutorial from last year on here and hackint0sh!).

By the way thats a cool photo under the doors!

Apples secrecy systems are again foiled by the iPhone!

As you can see, it's a pretty standard Oxford Street clone and is nearly up and running – just needs something to sell.

Spinstorm – if you look at the previous page you will see what I mean about 'a security door', ie the black wooden wall that has been in place for the last three months.

It's getting a bit wearing seeing Apple opening stores in the South of the UK all the time. There are stores in Southampton, Kingston-upon-Thames, Bristol, Exeter and a good few in London.

I'm aware that one is supposed to be arriving in Aberdeen, but there is a huge area in the North East without a nearby store. Edinburgh or Newcastle would be great places to put a store, but they keep ignoring the opportunity.

I'd be happy if there was never an Apple store in Edinburgh. Lets leave it where people really want to go shopping - Glasgow.

Nevertheless, it is beyond me why Apple think it is wise to put a store in Aberdeen.

Just got an email from Apple:

The Apple Store Churchill Square is opening Saturday 25 July at 10.00am.

The first 1000 visitors receive a free T-Shirt!

I rather like the new store. Compared to Cancom and Solutions Inc it has a huge range of products and dozens of machines properly loaded with software such as CS, Office, Final Cut etc. This counters a particularly annoying aspect of the previous Brighton stores, you could never actually try out computers with much of a range of apps.

The staff are VERY attentive and can be a bit of a pain, albeit in a well intentioned way. They do have habit of asking: 'Are you cool?', which is probably normal in Cupertino, but comes across as a bit forced when you're used to dealing with the usual grumpy staff in Churchill Square. (Or maybe I'm the grump and the answer is obviously 'no, not very'.)

I found it interesting that they had plenty of notebooks and iMacs, but only one Desk Pro. Well, slightly interesting.

I've been in three times (I live five minutes walk away) and it's always been packed. (I find it hard to believe that Brighton Cancom and Solutions Inc will survive, which is a shame.)

How many "Desk Pro"s do you imagine retail stores sell? Considering they don't offer much more than standard configs. Makes no sense to showcase more than one...
