I can think of a torrent of ways to watch content on the new AppleTV that doesn't matter if you buy/rent/ whatever else.

Well that sucks, no more buying your content on the ATV as the new one is rental only.

For now...

It's additional capabilities will be released through software updates, etc.

Now, can't you still BUY a movie on your computer and stream it through AppleTV?

It's just that ATV doesn't have its own storage.
