You can be confident Apple won't accidentally make the base iPad charge with USB-C and only be compatible with the original pencil.Base iPad works with 1st gen Apple Pencil. You know that it can be charged only by iPad’s lightning port right? You won’t charge it with new iPad with usb-c, unless pencil gen 2 will be supported.
Apple is not going to use the current chassis of the 9th gen iPad for a hypothetical USB-C 10th gen iPad. If the 10th gen iPad uses the same chassis, then it will continue to use the Lightning port. If they go USB-C for the base iPad, then they are more likely to switch to the Air chassis.Base iPad works with 1st gen Apple Pencil. The 1st gen Apple Pencil comes with a lightning female adapter (both ends are females) so you can charge it using a regular charger (one end goes to a lightning cable, the other end goes to the lightning part of the pencil.Base iPad works with 1st gen Apple Pencil. Nah, that probably cost too much R&D just to have it available on the entry level model. Meanwhile, Pencil 2 is already mass produced and compatible with all remaining iPads. It's more economical for Apple to just discontinue Pencil 1 and have all iPads support Pencil 2.What if they just revamped the gen 1 Pencil with USB-C?
Should work with a Lighting to USB-C adapter.
Or just use the adapter the pencil comes with.

Fair point. I wonder if the Lightning USBC adapters work there. But iirc, the AP1 still requires the Lightning port for pairing.
They do not. The 1st generation pencil is only compatible with iPads that have Lightning ports.Fair point. I wonder if the Lightning USBC adapters work there.
Probably smaller inferior screen (larger bezel). And we already know stage manager is a differentiation also (via software). What are the odds of the base iPad adopting the new iPad Air / pro form factor? I do wonder how Apple will differentiate between the two, beyond choice of processor?
I don't think they can use the air design and increase the bezels to make it 10.5 (as rumored). What people are not even considering is the fact that they could keep the home button but make the edges flat for pencil 2. Alternatively, they could make a USB C pencilProbably smaller inferior screen (larger bezel). And we already know stage manager is a differentiation also (via software).
The weird part is for Apple to not include LED flash on the air, while the mini has it. That could've been a good differentiator as flash is quite useful in scanning documents.
that does not make it statistically significant, just as someone saying "everyone I know with an iPad uses a pencil"No one I know with a iPad uses a pencil lol so
I don't think Apple would want to reengineer the Pencil just for the entry level model. It's probably more cost effective and profitable for Apple to just use the existing Pencil 2.I don't think they can use the air design and increase the bezels to make it 10.5 (as rumored). I don't think so. Redesigning the body of the iPad for flat edges is much more costly than just replacing lightning with USB C. Unless they simply replace it with the body of the air, which I am skeptical, since the air is already a 11pro with larger bezels and making the bezels so big that it gets to 10.5 will look much worse than even the current base iPad.I don't think Apple would want to reengineer the Pencil just for the entry level model. You can get a small converter and just plug it into a USB charger, so the pencil can be charged independently from the iPad. It'll be fine. It could be intentional and Apple can keep the home button? 😂 Ah well, I guess we’ll find out in September, maybe.I don't think so. That's the thing. Beyond a smaller screen and A# processor, what could Apple remove from the iPad Air that would reduce its price by the current ~$250 difference on the WiFi version. And how could a larger iPad mini be less expensive. What are the odds of the base iPad adopting the new iPad Air / pro form factor?
