The base iPad existed while the Air and Pro were the largely the same form factor so no reason why this can't happen again. I think we'll be getting the 'slab' form factor with a slightly smaller display (maybe non-laminated), less storage, A-series processor, a smaller camera with no bump. There's enough there to maintain a clear differential with the Air and its more affordable price. This will also make it compatible with Pencil 2 and more expensive accessories such as the Magic Keyboard.

Going forward I can see the Air line gaining a larger screen size option. This will then leave the iPhone SE as the sole device with a home button but this will be replaced next year with an iPhone mini derived design, ending the home button in Apple's lineup.

The first gen Apple Pencil can be charged from a lower voltage 12-18w) charger.
IT DOES NOT REQUIRE BEING PLUGGED INTO THE LIGHNING PORT.
There’s a small adapter that is female lightning at bothe ends. Plug a charger in on end and the pencil in the other and charge away.
I have never charged my first gen Apple pencil any other way,
The little adapter is about 1 inch long.
There may very well be an adapter that is USB-C female at one end abd Lightning female at the other.
Research on Anazon.

I don’t want to look for any adapters. I just want to buy something which is fully compatible with accessories. Why would I want to look for such solutions myself?

The engineering effort to redesign the Pencil 1 for USB-C is virtually zero.

There is no authentication chip for USB-C, so the switch for Pencil 1 is a cost reduction for Apple. The current $329 iPad already has a USB-C controller (to support fast charging). Again, the switch to USB-C for the iPad itself is a cost reduction exercise.

Charging isn’t the relevant issue here– you cannot pair an original generation 1 pencil to a USB-C iPad. They are not compatible with each other.

It’s just another “accessory “. I gave you the best, safest way to charge a 1st gen Apple Pencil.
I’m sorry I took the wrong path on your post and solved your issue.
I’m signing off of this post.

Is it normal to you to buy accessory when it’s necessary to buy another accessory to make the first one work with your device?🤣

Let’s say you have a camera and lens from the box doesn’t work with it. Are you ok with it if the producer tells you to buy adapter additionally? I don’t mean special lens from other companies.

What if all accessories required adapters? You say it’s no problem, right?

Are trying to use a Gen 1 Pencil with a Lightning connector with a USB-C iPad?

That's a poor analogy as it sounds like you are trying to mix and match incompatible products purchased separately, though it's not clear as you have not stated exactly what products you are trying to use together.
