I call BS. There are PC laptops with FAR better GPU's, which with vista makes a big difference. Hell some with SLI. Granted those things are HUGE.
Claiming its the fastest Vista laptop ever is more then just a stretch, its pure FUD. What it boils down to is that PCMag hasn't tested all the available systems. They can claim this against the systems THEY have tested.

They are offensive to pc users in my opinion. I'm not convinced making your potential customers feel stupid is a great marketing strategy.

You may not think so, but all successful marketing is intended to make the target consumer feel inadequate. The general premise is that you "must have" a certain item in order to maintain or gain identity. You'd like to think that this would be out grown by the end of high school, but it sadly is not. Think about clothing commercials especially; if you're not shopping at "blah blah and blah blah" you're not "adequate."

To that end, these commercials are doing a fantastic job; they are making the target audience (PC users) feel like they're missing out. The hidden assertion is that if you buy a Mac, you'll be hip, young, attractive, and self confident (not unlike the "Mac" character;)).

"The fastest Windows Vista notebook we've tested this year is a Mac. Try that again: The fastest Windows Vista notebook we've tested this year--or for that matter, ever--is a Mac"

I think this is pretty straightforward?

This could just mean that they never tested the heavy hitters but restricted themselves to notebooks from a certain category. If you test 100 notebooks of the 500 that are available in the market, what do you know about the other 400? Nought.

What PC World said:
"The fastest Windows Vista notebook we've tested this year is a Mac. Try that again: The fastest Windows Vista notebook we've tested this year--or for that matter, ever--is a Mac"

What some are halucinating that PC World said:
"The fastest Windows Vista notebook in existence is a Mac."

Again, I think what it says is pretty straightforward. It doesn't say fastest in the known universe.:D
What it says to me is that if you are foolish enough to want a computer to run the windoz virus on, the mac is not the slowest.
Pretty funny actually that it is faster than any pc that is purposely built to run the windoz virus!
I would never load that virus on my mac but I guess it is good news to those who would.

Sorry for the lame title, it's all I could come up with on Spot.

On the network, TNT during "The Closer," I just spotted a new "Get a Mac" ad not shown on the Apple Website.

PC is dressed in his underwear, sox, and an undershirt, with his normal suit attire neatly hung on a Hanger.

Mac: Hello, I'm a Mac...
PC: ... and I'm a PC. Well Mac, here ya go, Congratulations, it's yours. (Handing his clothes to Mac)
Mac: Uh, PC I don't understand.
PC: PC world did a test. Apparently the fast Windows Vista Laptop is Mac, so to the Victor, the spoils.
Mac: Oh, you don't have to...
PC: Take good care of her, Mac. She's a beaut.
Mac: Ah, PC I'm flattered but I am actually pretty excited about my new operating system, Leopard. It's got tons of new features... (PC rolls eyes) ... but Hey you still still run Vista pretty fast, PC.
PC: Yeah, that's true. Second fastest (proudly).
Mac: Second Fastest!!
PC: In the world!!
Mac: Not.... bad at all...
PC: Ha heh.... second best! (Raising arms up in Victory.)

iMac Logo.

I'm not capable of YouTubing this anytime soon, so if anyones willing to beat me to it, go right ahead.

:)

Yep, someone has YouTube'd it: http://youtube.com/watch?v=c9d0GwqKBkk

This is pretty funny I must admit though, all these PC vendors try to deliver the best performance for the offered price and here we find that the MacBook beats them all without even trying. Well I'll be... :D

I guess no one read here that PCWorld and Apple kind of went under fire for this because about a week later PCWorld tested a laptop that blew the MBP by a solid number.

You mean this:

"Correction: The MacBook Pro's reign as fastest notebook ended on 10/25/2007, not 11/23/2007 as was previously reported. We apologize for the error".

Edit: of course this will go on forever, the fastest notebook has yet to be made.....

Maybe I'm missing something here but why would a computer run faster/slower for any reason other than the processors? Wouldn't a Mac 2.4 core 2 duo run the same speed as a pc 2.4 core 2 duo? Assuming the same ram? What would cause a difference other than the clearly known hardware stats? Isn't that why these stats are measured with numbers? I just don't get how 2 computers with the same processors/ram/general hardware would differ in speed.

No there are many factors that come into place based, on the mother board, and the cpu it-self. No, two cpu's are the same. i.e one 2.4 intel chip maybe a little different than the other 2.4 intel chip with the same specs.

fastest vista notebook is a mac? wanna spew out a little more BS PC world so the apple fanboys can eat it up

can your overprice Asus made MBP can beat this?

Sager 9252
Intel® Core 2 Extreme Edition X6800 (2.93GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 1066FSB)
(this is a QUAD CORE, not some piddly dual core)
4GB DDR2 800MHz
TRIPPLE HARD DRIVES in RAID 0
thats 200GB x 3 running stripe, can your 1 HDD beat 3?
Dual 8800GTX GO running in SLI
can your midend 8600GT beat 2x high end 8800gtx's?
BTW thats 1.00GB of video ram not 0.25GB

oh BTW Asus makes their own laptop to slaughter the laptop they make for apple (obviously, they even kept the design of the W2 for themselves)

ASUS G2S-Extreme
Intel® Core™2 Extreme Processor X7800
2.6GHz, FSB: 800MHz, 4MB L2 Cache
2GB (1GB x 2) DDR2 667 MHz SDRAM
NVIDIA GeForceGo 8600M GT GPU
256 MB GDDR3 Physical VRAM
2.5" 9.5mm HDD, 200 GB (7200rpm)

better specs for $900 less, wow

what a waste of everybodies time, PC world should **** until they ACTUALLy know what they are talking about. comparing ULTRA portable 12" or tablet laptops to a 17" highest end MBP? WTF?

not only that, both Dell and Alienware (as well as HP i think) have SLI 17" that blow away anything Asus has EVER MADE for apple.
