Mine arrived on Wednesday after the first one got lost by TNT.

Will be seeking compensation after Christmas!

It's a nice machine though. Going to 12GB RAM soon (got 2x4GB from OWC - highly recommend!!)

Same here. Mine arrived yesterday. Got it unpacked and turned on then left for Christmas festivities. Itching to see how fast it is. :)

I've spoken to the guys at OWC, and they said of the RAM their selling, they've had very few issues with the ones that are running 16gb on these machines. They said order the 16gb of OWC RAM, and you shouldn't have any issues...and if I do, they'll take care of it anyways.

just got this

just got this 27" iMac i7

I added 16gb of Crucial RAM and it flies after programs are running. Some mild lag time with opening large programs like final cut express. I was surprised it uses Notebook RAM.

I didn't get the SSD, but now wonder if it's worth it. It seems the aftermarket add on requires brackets and other complicated issues. Hopefully Apple will set up a service to allow people to pay a "Genius" to add SSD when they come down in price.

I also have some issue with the resolution being too small to comfortably view web pages. I switched from Chrome to Firefox and added NoSquint add-on.

Parallels 6 runs Windows 7 well -- I gave it 2 cores, and 6gb of RAM.

My Apple store finally gave up trying to fix my 24" iMac 2.93 Core2Duo. So last night I threw in a couple bucks and upgraded the replacement to the i7 iMac. Haven't had time to use it yet. Last night was spent copying all my files and installing a few programs the wife and I need. Still have the 10.6.5 upgrade left to do and then I think I'll be just adding what I need. Very happy with the larger screen and it's so quiet. The hard drive makes a bit more seek noise than I remember on the old machine, but it doesn't bother me.

It's nice to see the CPU fan resting at 1000 rpm all the time. That was the issue that killed my 24". First it was a video problem. They fixed that, but in doing so the CPU fan started fluctuating between 1300 and 3600 rpm unpredictably with no load on the CPU. They replaced the fan, ambient temp sensor, then the logic board (second one in a month) before they gave up.

I just had to share a few things about my imac 27" with everyone. I've had it for a while now, and I love it. It wasn't until recently where I discussed a dramatic improvement on performance when editing hd video in iMovie that I discovered the importance of lots of ram and a SSD. I was editing on the 2TB internal harddrive, placing both my project and footage on that drive. But, it was hanging up quite a bit using 4gb of ram, giving the little color wheel and once editing up in quite a bit of detail, the titles were literally hanging it up. I was hearing the internal drive rev up and down to try to keep up, and it was taking forever for things to load, etc. Instead, I'm not loading both the footage and the project onto the SSD drive, doing all my editing, exporting the video, then just transferring it all onto the second internal 2tb once I'm completed...what a freakin' difference. No more hang ups anywhere.

Secondly, today I received 16GB of ram from OWC, because I'm editing vids a lot more than I was the first few months I had it, and as soon as I turned it on, the startup is almost instantaneous. Programs open almost instantly now, nor more little working circle thing on any adobe program, or imovie, photoshop, illustrator, etc. It's awesome so far, but I'm only a few hours deep with it on the new ram.

But, so far so good, and I'd highly recommend it to anyone that needs the speed or appreciates it, because it's dramatic.
