Somebody hasn't seen Inception yet, ideas are viruses, once they've started you can't stop them.

Sorry, I had to make the reference.

Yeah exactly. I am planning on getting my i7 next week and I keep reading this dreadful posts about yellow screens and weird noises coming from these little beasts.

Now when I take mine home I'm gonna have to put it to the test...

I'm a little concerned about the noise issue as my place is quiet. Plan to buy at the shop so I can test the iMac before bringing it home. Is the dog whistle thing audible in a normal shop environment? Or should I press my ear close to the screen and adjust the brightness?

It was funny, I was so pissed when I set this up today and it had the dog whistle noise. When my wife got home I was all mad and complaining about how bad it is and she couldn't even hear it . I guess if you dont know what your listening for it might not be that bad, but once you do hear it, its so annoying. If I were you, Id stop paying attention to this issue immediately, before its too late.

Sounds like (pardon the pun! :D ) that you have the same ability as dogs in hearing high-pitched noises! :p ....but I know what you mean, once you start to hear a noise that no-one else can, it bugs you!

Did you manage to ask yet what Apple will offer you in return for your current machine?

Yeah, I talked to them yesterday. They said that the $150 and the free express shipping that they gave me off this new imac (for the trouble of returning 4 imac's before) would be applied to the new replacement computer, but that that is the maximum amount of compensation they will give to any customer. I tend to think that its BS that they wont even give me 10% off, considering I've been through this process 5 times now, but on the other hand they have taken back every one of them without any questions, so Im still happy. Im just hoping that the 5th time is the charm.

Write a letter to or email Mr. Steve Jobs. I'm sure all of us following these threads would be looking forward to his reply.

I thought about that, but I can't imagine him caring much about my iMac problems. He'd probably just tell me to put a bumper on it to conceal the dog whistle noise.

Hey man, I feel your pain. I stopped at 3 exchanges for the high pitched/buzzing noise, only because the engineering team put a hold on any further exchanges until I took it into an Apple retail store to have my current iMac looked at by a tech. Because the closest Apple store is about 2 hours away and I the customer relations rep that I was dealing with couldn't guarantee me anything for my troubles (much less gas money/wear and tear to my car, plus days off work to make the 2 hour trip each way), I decided to settle with the third one. It's the older 2.66 i5. It buzzes and has the high pitched noise, and it's dependent on the screen brightness and heat/processor usage. This is my first Mac, and the headache has almost been more than what it's worth to have the thing. I've spent HOURS on these forums and other google results, youtube videos, etc. researching this problem. I just decided to give up and start enjoying the computer. If the thing burns up, I just hope it does it within my 3 years of Apple Care so that I can call them back and say "Hey, I tried to get this taken care of at the beginning."

Best of luck, please keep us updated.

Well, i think it's a bit poor of them to offer that level of compensation once more, then again like you say, they have taken back every mac without question. Fingers crossed for you!

Just ordered my 27" i7 and am trying to wait patiently for it to arrive!

I love these computers (minus the complete lack of quality control), so I don't want to switch back to pc,

you're not the only one who feels this way. I swore I'd never go back but with the stability of W7 and the seemingly endless problems with quality control I'm seriously considering it.

dun dun dunnnnn......oh no you didn't! jk I am using windows 7 right now and it is a pretty darn good OS. I managed to get it onto my old HP laptop when I thought this thing was going to explode, it actually now is a solid PC (vista before was terrible on it).

I'm trying to justify wanting to switch to mac after all these years and the quality control problems have me worried. But I will be getting a imac and praying to the God's that when I do, it will be painless...

Weird...

High pitched noise? Seriously? My i7 from last month has none of these issues. No yellow tint, no speed problems.

I keep reading about horrible issues but I can't say I've experienced them.

The only downside is I can't add a second drive.
Oh and no faster 1.3 ghz memory.
Oh and no faster 2.93 ghz CPU.
Well you get the idea.

Just got my replacement iMac today, and its Sweet!!!!! No dog whistle, no yellow screen, nothing but 27" of pure perfection. :D
