Random times for me too

I'm having the same problem but it's not when i come out of standby. It's at random times while in the middle of using the mouse.

BTW, it's a new 24" iMac and wireless Mighty Mouse.

It happens at random times for me too. Mine is also a brand new 24 iMac and wireless mighty mouse.

found that my problem could be fixed just by opening bluetooth preferences. didn't actually have to disable / enable bluetooth

so i found a widget that is just a button that turns bluetooth on / off, and you can set it to open bluetooth preferences when you click on it, or by hitting the o button

so if mine stops working (it did it again the other day) i can just hit the dashboard button on the keyboard, then hit o to open bluetooth, and the mouse starts working again

i have some issue with bluetooth on my new imac and mba too.
i try to use a PS3 bluetooth headset, for some reason i can only use as a headphone but not a mic :(

Same here

I have had the same issues on my old Imac, First mouse would freeze in place and then i would have to reboot buy holding the power button, Next it would freeze over night (in sleep mode),i too thought it was only the bluetooth but had the same issue with a wired mouse,This went on for the first four months i owned this Imac (last Gen 3.06 w/880gs 4gb) finally after doing everything and going in for repair,Apple agreed to take this one back and send me the new updated Imac, So i am waiting for the new one with the ati card to get here April 27th.
I would work on the customer service department and express how displeased you are and maybe you will get some satisfaction.
They had me jumping through hoops for four months , everything from pram too complete reinstall to cature data to repair shop and they never could figure it out or fix it!!!!

Get ugly and get results,

Although i will say aside from that issue i like the Imac far better than any of the pc's i own......

I'm having this same issue with my Rocketfish bluetooth mouse. Once in a while it will disconnect and it also hangs the bluetooth icon in the menu bar. If I hover over the menu bar all I get is a spinning beach ball. Swapping out to the wired mouse will allow me to continue working, but I still can do anything with the menu bar.

The only thing I can do is a power off using the power button. I even went into the terminal window, did a "ps -ef" but couldn't find what process I needed to terminate to get bluetooth back. There is definitely a bug in the OS.

Same problem here

I have a new 2.93 GHz iMac and randomly the wireless Mighty Mouse will start stuttering then freeze up completely after a period of time. Sadly I have to use my 9 year old Microsoft Intellimouse via USB to go to the Bluetooth menu and disconnect then reconnect the Mighty Mouse again to get it working.

I have called Apple 3 times about this same issue and they are now sending me a new Mighty Mouse. I also saw someone post that it only happened to them using Safari 4 Beta so I will quit using Safari 4 Beta for now with the new mouse and see what happens.

Being this is my first Mac, I hope this is not something that requires me to take the iMac into the local Apple Store...

Yup... Same here!

My one started doing it a few days after it arrived. Very annoying so I have resorted to using the USB keyboard and mouse I had from my old Apple setup - lucky for me! My new wireless keyboard and mouse is now sitting in a draw!!! Must be a software problem... Sort it out Apple!

My Refurb imac 3.06 8800 does it as well, I first thought it was my third party mouse but after trying with the mighty mouse it also started to happen my problem is that I also have a wireless keyboard, at the beginning I didn't think the keyboard was affected but just today I realized my keyboard also stops working, my only solution is to turn the computer off manually by pressing the back button, this could be a very serious problem if you are doing something important in your computer and if this happens many things could be lost, I will be contacting apple first thing tomorrow so they can address this problem.

I got it once on the first day, twice on the second ... I hope there isn't a pattern appearing :(

I've a brand new iMac 24" (2009 model) with wired keyboard and wireless MM. Not had a Mac before so no issues with old kit. The only other Bluetooth device that was found from the Bluetooth menu was my mobile phone (cell phone), I'll try moving that into another room and out of range. Not totally sure when the mouse stopped responding but it may have been about five minutes after coming out of sleep mode.

From people saying that it's happening with refurb and older models as well as the new models, that would suggest that it's down to a recent software update. So it's either the Bluetooth drivers/SW or an interaction between that and something else.

Guys anymore issues with the bluetooth keyboard and mouse on the imac. I am buying an iMac next week and after reading the bluetooth issues i am not sure if i should get the wireless keyboard and mouse? Any suggestion?

lol, funny, I was just reading this thread and thinking haha to all you lot, on my brand new iMac, which has no problems, only for the mouse and keyboard to suddenly go OFF!!

Wow, this really is an issue isn't it. While most problems on forums are one offs, this I believe is not.

I just pressed the button on the back, which sends it to sleep, then pressed the mouse and it came back on, everything still working. So it looks like I carry on having to do that. This was the first time BT stuff has turned off, I've had it since Tuesday.

lol... serves ya right! j/k

I agree though, simplest and quickest fix is to quickly put the computer to sleep (push the power button quickly) and then turn it back on. Sure as hell beats plugging in another mouse.

I've got the same issue, unfortunately sleep via the power button as above doesn't work for me. I have just turned on bluetooth sharing as suggested in a previous thread to see if it makes any difference. I think the problem is with the iMac because turning the mouse off/on or removing the batteries (and putting them back :D doesn't help, I have to switch bt off on the iMac.

I will have to find this bluetooth widget and set up a key board shortcut.

iMac bluetooth issues

I just purchased a used (two months old) iMac 24 2.66. I am having the same problem with both the keyboard and mouse. It has happened at least three times in the last week. Both just stop working. i have a usb mouse plugged in that I just use to turn the bluetooth off and back on again then everything is fine. Mine happens randomly.

Funny thing is that both the keyboard and mouse worked perfect with my black 2.4 macbook for months. I am thinking that it is a hardware issue since both computers are running pretty much the same software.

I was having problems with my wireless Mighty Mouse, until the last bluetooth update from Apple, and it's been OK since.

P.S. I repaired my disk and it still happens. Also it shuts down fine on any other user account on this computer.

Any help is much appreciated!

WELL!
I have the same problem. I have figured out that this occur when I use a wirleless keybord and mouse with the bluetooth, working on my led cinema display... Sometimes the bluetooth lose contact with my keyboard. then I have to close down the bluetooth and then put it back on...

Later, when i want to close my session the computer don't shutdown...

if you ask me this has sometting do whit the bluetooth on my macbook pro 17 (april 2009), because when bluetooth is shut off the computer works perfect..

now I use a wired keyboard and mouse when i connect the computer to cinema display... it's ok eventhough i.ve preffered a wireless keyboard...

(excuse my english, I'm from another planet)
