Anything can be "in spec". However, an apple rep and 3 techs at compusa agreed my screen was faulty enough to warrant a return. They didn't even see the backlight bleeding I was having!
That´s probably bc they never bothered to use solid color backgrounds or run any tests. Well, personally I´ll be going through the motions again. I just got off the phone with apple care and I´ll be receiving another iMac shortly.
I have seen screens on this forum w/o evident tinting so I am going to try one more time. It´s my first apple computer and I really like the way a lot of power and usability is so tightly integrated. I really want to keep that.
I suggest you try again as well. As you want to do some hd editing staying on the os x platform is probably worthwile. I have just tried fce 4 and it´s a great piece of software. The iMac has got enough power for 720p editing. 1080i bogged down the machine significantly, however. If you want to do that I´d return the iMac and wait for the new entry level mac pro. There is a chance that we will see a lower price point.
