What do you guys think?

Just a speed increase? Maybe an entire new design? Will it be released this week? Will it be announced this week?

Please discuss.

Well, as we all now know, there was no iMac released at WWDC. But that doesn't mean a completely redesigned one won't be released in the very near future. I'd expect either iMac or Mac Pro updates in the next few weeks, so hopefully we won't have to wait for it for too long..

I am personally fine and glad that I bought mine in December. Very smart choice. I thought there was a good chance for Santa Rosa and Leopard to be out by Spring in the iMac. If I didn't buy it in December when I did, I'd still be waiting to day. I've gotten 6 months out of my iMac already instead of waiting forever.

But they do need to see an update. It's been nearly a year since the last update. It was modest too. A slight increase with the Core 2 Duo, and of course the 24" screen. But nothing different, really, since the G5.

I'm somewhat disappointed by today's show. Leopard looks cool of course, but I have to wonder how much the new features will actually be useful to me, beyond eye-candy.

And, quite frankly, while I find the iPhone to be slick and high tech, I'm not going to buy one.

The only thing I really want from Apple right now is a new Mac that can double as a gaming PC (with upgradeable GPU of course.) In fact, if something like the much-talked-about xMac had been released, I probably would have whipped out the credit-card then and there, even though I'm not in a financial position at the moment to buy a whole new computer. That's how bad I want one.

I may even have been interested in an iMac based on Santa Rosa that has a user upgradeable GPU. Bah. Thanks for nothing, Steve.

Maybe something will be released tomorrow or next Tuesday. Just have to keep on, keep on, keep on, waiting.....

Damn iPhone again

Apple's most recent "silent" updates were on Tuesdays.

I'm a Pc user that has been waiting forever it seems! I can't see them doing anything with the iMac next Tuesday! If they didn't do at WWDC they will most likely wait until after the 29th when the iPhone comes out. I'm so upset with all the waiting that I hope iphone " crash and burns "!!! I've waited this long I will wait until OCT. after that the hell with Apple or the Mac. I'm buying a PC and use Linux.

Now what?

That's what I'm thinking right now about Windows Safari. Trying it out on my work computer right now, it's neat, but still Public Beta. It's crashed on a few sites I've tried (including one for the school I work at.) But I just can't fathom why Apple ported it to Windows.

When is the imac's anniversary?

Interesting thought. The original iMac was announced on May 5, 1998 and became publicly available on August 15 that year. The first date is obviously past, the second is still to come, but I don't see why the ninth birthday would be sufficiently important to merit a specially-timed new release.

With all the noise about a new groundbreaking design & huge desktop investment, I don't see any new iMac's until September at Macworld at which time they will roll them out with Leopard pre-installed and an October delivery. That will just coincide with my PowerBook's retirement date so I'm happy with no summer release :p

In other words, you're looking at more than a year between iMac releases--which is unprecedented, and which is an awful thought to contemplate for those of us who are waiting to buy a new computer and who don't feel like paying full price for last year's technology.

Oh man, I so much want an iMac. I can only hope that when it's announced, they'll actually have enough stock that we'll get them within a decent timeframe.

Store nearly always goes down between 5-6am Cupertino time if there is an update for that day. So, if the store goes down in the next hour then there's a chance of an update today. Otherwise, there's next to no chance.
