Store nearly always goes down between 5-6am Cupertino time if there is an update for that day. So, if the store goes down in the next hour then there's a chance of an update today. Otherwise, there's next to no chance.

BUT If its a major redesign why would they lauch them with no event. when has Apple ever annonced a redesigned product withinout an event apart from the Macbooks but they wernt really that different. Imac G5=Event= Imac G4=Event and the original imac had a massive=Event. Sadly i dont know how long were going to have to wait. IM SO DESPEARTE FOR A NEW IMAC though. I might buy a mbp but i hate laptops and think that the MBP is bit old eg. Powerbook G4, it still has a mechanical latch for goodness sake.

yep, me too... i'm cramped up on a 12" ibook 2.5 yrs old... i can't remember the last time i let it loose from all the chords it's hooked up to!! (external harddrive, dvd burner, power, net)...

if they can up date the laptop range surely they can spare some lovin' for the imac.... and it's not like this "industrial design" is being heldup by iphone work... its only the casing, people!!

In other words, you're looking at more than a year between iMac releases--which is unprecedented, and which is an awful thought to contemplate for those of us who are waiting to buy a new computer and who don't feel like paying full price for last year's technology.

I second that comment. Since it is a given that the value of any piece of technology constantly decays due to superseding technology, the idea of buying a computer that is exactly the same (specs and price) as it was 9 months ago means you’re not getting the best deal. This is where I disagree with the stock "if you need it now, buy it" answer. The exception is if the computer is being used for business and is 'making money' for you.

The hot model Dell from 9 months ago is now their mid or low-end and is 40% cheaper. Apple doesn't mark down their products even though it is known that they are paying a lot less for the most expensive components (cpu, hard drive, RAM, even LCD).

SERIOUSLY!! Im Pissed!!

This is absofuc*ing redicious! 10 MONTHS and NO UPDATES??? Steve.........seriously man, get a clue, this is truely unacceptable. The current iMac's are NOT competitive at their current price points. You have got to update your hardware man. I seriously can NOT believe that the iMac still remains in its current form.

I was frustrated to see no new iMacs as well. I am waiting to switch back to apple and would like to get a 24"+ iMac but I am not willing to pay top dollar for nearly year old technology.

I heard Oct. with the release of Leopard - new Macs to go with the new OS.

It's been known for some time that Apple is concentrating on the iPhone, hence all we're getting right now is a MBP speed bump...

iPhone has very little to do with delay(s)

I really don't buy that 'concentrating on iPhone' bit. Do you really think they're pulling people working on the Mac OS to work on a phone? Are they pulling hardware development people off of the iMac to work on a silly phone?

Are we to believe they have like a few dozen people working there, and as soon as there's two projects to work on, everything slows down? How come the last umpteen iPods didn't cause delays, or AppleTV for that matter?

Those are just excuses to fend off people asking about last year's promises.

If I remember correctly, didn't most of the rumors say by the end of June? We aren't even halfway through it... ;)

Yes, but some, if not most, of us, are really impatient. Of course, this may in part have been exacerbated this year by Apple's lack of product updates. I for one was not too happy to see that after only 2 months they decided to offer a 160GB :apple:tv model. I purchased mine the first week they hit stores and would have benefited from the larger capacity and would have spent the extra $100. So...

Jan:
iPhone announced
:apple:tv announced
Airport Extreme announced

Feb:
Colored Shuffles
Airport Extreme shipping

Mar:
:apple:tv shipping

Apr:
Leopard delayed
8-Core Mac Pros

May:
MacBook speed bumps
:apple:tv 2nd HDD option
iTunes Plus

Jun:
MacBook Pro Santa Rosa & LED
Leopard re-preview
Safari for Windows
YouTube for :apple:tv coming

almost Jul:
iPhone

I found out that there might be an update, so I waited till yesterday.. and nothing. So I went an bought the 24" from the Apple store. They are doing a ram upgrade for me, so it should be ready in about 10 minutes. I didnt want to wait till they decided to release an update.

Plus the current iMac is a pretty nice machine!! Leaving now to go pick it up!!

Sweet.

I was supposed to be getting mine today and found Amazon messed up and just shipped it today. I will now have it tomorrow. The good news is that they refunded me for the whole shipping cost. So I got 1 day shipping for free which is great because now my new iMac will only cost me $1899.

Mad mad mad

.

What fundmentally sucks here is the mystery of all of this.

I wish that Apple would get over being so mysterious.

I Ebayed my Core Duo imac to buy a new imac back when they hit the 160 day cycle. Now it's up to like 270 days???

Apple, this bites.

Apple wouldn't be so successful without the mystery.

And you should know better than selling your computer before you know that another one will be available. Nothing to get mad at Apple for.

LOL we are sick people. I sold my 17" imac two months ago, and since then I have been using my wife's ibook. She is not impressed. I am trying to be philosophical about it. Then next one I am keeping until the wheels fall of.

I can't see Apple releasing an updated imac until after iphone. Do you think they would want any product taking away from the hype? My guess is that Apple will wait until at least a couple weeks after the release of the iphone and maybe longer.

Although I have been waiting a long time for an update, I think I will continue to wait until October if necessary for an upgrade and get the preinstalled Leopard with it (Of course I probably would buy if they released an updated imac soon).;)

wasnt 2007 supposed to be the year of the iMac?

I think if its really going to be the year then a redesign is in order, and if thats the case I cant see apple bumping what they have now then releasing a New Mac again this year.

It would have been nice to have a new iMac by my birthday, a good present to myself. Now I'm not likely to see it released, let alone ordered. It's just before the 4th.
