Huh?

nice... did you even read the topic you are replying to?

If a hard drive spins at the same speed as a larger one than it wouldn't matter how 'large' the drive is. It's the same degree of heat.

Usually they either use more of the platter surface or use a side of a platter that isn't used on a smaller drive.

Your comment made very little sense...

+1 (so long as the drives are the same vendor, diameter and basic design)

Where the heck is Leon when you need some HDD specs?

If its the same size hard drive and brand etc, it doesnt matter how much space it has (320, 500 etc..). The platters are still the same size, its just how dense they are. So, it will still be the same amount of heat.

Ok so while I finally have a little bit of time I wanted to post a final update.

I received my replacement iMac about 4 days after I shipped the DOA one back. This second unit appears to be flawless. It has no major gradient issue and while I have not inspected things too anally I did not notice any dead pixels! I love this machine and am very happy with my decision to go with a Mac. Worlds better than Windows IMHO.

I also have my MobileMe service set up for syncing contacts, calendars and mail between my iMac and iPhone. For the most part this seems to be working as intended although one quirk is that if I delete items on my iPhone they do not seem to get deleted on the MobileMe server or iMac. I am not going to sweat this too much right now as we are just a few weeks into the whole MobileMe experience and others appear to be having this issue as well.

Once I get some more time I will be sure to post some pics of my new iMac and my IKEA glass top Galant desk!

Cheers!

great to hear everything is working out for you now. Look forward to seeing some pics, I'll be adding some to my thread asap too.
Enjoy your new toy. :D

apple is slipping on their quality it seems like just about everyone who buys an imac has screen issues. I'm on my way to buy an imac in an hour and i'm scared that i'm going to get a bad screen. I know i can probably get it returned quickly especially since i have a store nearby but i just hate the hassle.
I know. Rediculous. Thing is, I'm a perfectionist, and after finding my Macs had these issues, I'm starting to think I should switch back. I love the mac experience, but if Apple can do quality so badly on such an expensive machine, then they've lost my business.
