New iMac received!

I just went out and bought the 21.5" iMac with the 5670HD 512MB.

So far so good, no problems at all, it has a Seagate drive, but not too noisy.
No yellowing, no funny sounds... I am a very happy person.

I have noticed a few new things with my iMac, that was not present on the last revision.

Power button: The actual button has a different surface now, so you can feel the button.

Fan: The fans come on more than the one I had before with the last revision, probably due to the higher specs.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask, and I will try and post some game performance on this thread soon. So far, supreme commander works well all full quality =)
 
Perhaps you could try some games or 3D apps and let us know how it performs :)

Which processor did you get?
 
Glad to read you received a "good one" (sort of speaking).

And, glad to read they made a few other minor improvements as well. re: Power buttom and fans coming on more often - to help inner cooling...

If you got a chance to play call of duty 4, 5, or 6, that would be awesome. I really want to see some fps rates for the 5670 with these games.
 
My 21.5" arrived today, and the one thing I have to say is how glad I am that I didn't go for the 27. Even the 21.5" screen looks enormous in my tiny little study. A 27" would just completely dominate.

Oh, and the screen is perfect. No yellowing, no dead pixels :)

A good choice, for sure. I'm going with a 21.5" iMac myself. The problem with some of these forums is that so many people automatically recommend 27" i7 iMac with no regard to A) if a person has the space, B) the need or C) the money for that kind of an investment. Some of these people who have several Mac-computers (Mac Pros, iMacs, Macbook Pros, iPads, Airs) forget that $+1500 is a lot of money for a computer. They also forget that 27" (especially with the ultra high resolution) is something that can even be unpractical for the basic user -- several people have reported that they eyes hurt when using the 27" model.

Since so many people are making these automatic "choose 27" i7, it's so worth it" recommendations, people who don't have the space nor the use for such a computer think that they have choose it because otherwise they get a computer (iMac 21.5") which will be a let-down. Moreover, I think that in these forums you are just not cool unless you have 27" i7 -- in other words, unless you are one of these people who feel the need to max everything out in the Apple Store.

I'm not saying that the 27" screen isn't gorgeous or that i7 is slow. I'm sure that iMac is awesome. However, most of us here are probably basic users who do not use heavy editing programs and who do not have +10 windows open at the same time. I think it's a bit irresponsible to be recommending the maxed out iMac so easily. Of course it's up to every individual to not take recommendations blindly into consideration, but I myself almost wanted to choose the 27" model even though I don't have the space for it and the quad core performance would have been an overkill for my needs.

By the way, many gamers do forget that even the maxed out iMac isn't exactly the most fearsome gaming machine. The 27" model has that ultra high resolution and so you cannot really play SC2 and such with its native resolution and expect good framerates in high settings. Of course you can scale down the resolution but it is a fact that the more you have to scale the resolution, the worse the picture will be. In this regard, the 21.5" is IMO the better gaming screen (you don't have to scale down) although obviously you cannot get the quad core or the 1Gb GPU to it.

Yup, I will continue to update/install more games and post results here.

So far:

Crysis Wars = 25fps on all good visuals (no antialiasing)
GTA IV = Runs medium to very high in settings with no lag (about a solid 30fps), antistropic x16
Supreme Commander, not the most most gfx instense game, everything high, no lag.

Will do L4D2 and COD MW2 soon.

Oh yea, and it's the 3.2 GHz processor.

Can you tell me about your HDD. Can you hear it making sound when you are working. Or is it death silent?
Ik have a 27"" i5, the older version. A couple of day's ago I noticed a constant rumbling sound. Not loud but I can hear it.

Can you try Dragon Age, Mass Effect 2 or Assassin's Creed 2? And a racing game like NFS Shift or Dirt 2?

How have you excatly Crysis settings? Very High?

I also have a Seagate disk, no sounds audible so far, unless you put the ear to the casing.

Even if there was a sound, I wouldnt take it back, I mean, all hardrives make noise...

I'm pretty sure Good Visuals in Crysis Wars relates to High in Crysis.
 
COD 4 MW1 has no lag at all high/full/max settings.
Battlefield 2 has no lag also, but that's hardly surprising =)

Will do MW2 once I have finished installing it, and Bad Company 2, and Borderlands =) I'm very impressed with the Mac so far!

I run SC2 in windows 7 maxed out at the highest resolution and it runs really nice. Not sure about OSX though..

Okey, I guess the OSX version is somewhat bricked as the SC2-website instructs people with the new i5/i7 iMacs to use settings where some settings are even on medium.

Alright guys,

Left 4 Dead 2 = runs everything on full, no lag whatsoever
Borderlands = EVERYTHING + antialiasing on full, about 25FPS.

Does anyone know any good ways to show framerates?
 
Hello ,
You iMac has got i3 or i5 ?
And you can try Team Fortress 2 ?
and for showing framerates , try Fraps
