new iMac?

Probably September, that special event they did on the 12th last year (of September), when they released the new iPod family.
That sounds like a good bet, if not in the next 2 weeks, I can't believe they would wait till September to go SR on the iMacs. That would be a quite unfortunate insult.
If you need one now, why not look for a used or refurb C2D / Napa iMac? You can either keep it (unless you're getting 4GB or more of RAM, it's not like SR is going to make a huge difference in your life) or even resell it and upgrade later. If you go refurb, you're not going to lose too much money in the process... if your iBook really needs replacing with a desktop (that deserves a

My new iMac is coming today
That is great for you and we compliment you on your purchase. That machine will be new, and new to you. However, some of us want a model/specs that are newly updated.
I understand your postition - because I was in it and gave up. I have been waiting since Feb and kept postponing it. Figured I'd wait until WWDC. No new iMacs, so I ordered.
I am sure you will get your new iMac update within the next 3 months. I know how much it stinks to wait, and I am mad I waited this long in the first place.
what specs are most people wanting updated? and of those desired updates, which are the most realistic?
Santa Rosa, not so much for the 2.16->2.2 and 2.33->2.4 CPU upgrades, the possible stock RAM to 2GB, or the possible stock HDD to 500GB, or even the 800mhz Front Side Bus up from 667, but mostly for two things:
1. The total RAM tops out at 4GB (2x1GB, which I think can go higher with the introduction of 4GB sticks, 2x4GB - though really 4 is enough).
2. Mostly for the rumored industrial design/aluminum case. I have long loved the PBs/MBPs/PM G5s/MPs and ACDs for the aluminum case and would rather have a Cinema Display and Mac Pro than a white iMac. The Mac Pro is overkill for my needs though, and the Mini underpowered, and short of a midtower, the iMac is great, and I love the space saving simplicity of it. a 24" aluminum cased iMac or even 27" would be perfect for me. Considering I had an original G4 450 for almost 7 yrs and bought a Mini in Oct as a holdover, I will wait to see the iMac get updated.
why would a double in the stock RAM and HDD be expected? i would figure that Apple enjoys the big profit margin on each of those BTO options.
They upped the stock RAM on the MBP to 2GB, so it is not out of the question, but not that like either. I would say 50/50. The hard drive, same thing, HDDs are bigger and cheaper and with Time Machine coming in Leopard, I can see them offering a 500. However, it maybe a thing where the 17" gets dropped, the 20" goes down in price but retains the 1GB and 250GB HDD and the 24" gets 2GB and 500GB HDD standard. Again no one knows. The 2.4 maybe a BTO in any case, since the 20" and 24" currently stock the 2.16 with options to 2.33.
I have been patiently awaiting the arrival of the new iMac for some time now. I hoped that it would have been released here in June but no luck so far. The way I see it it might be valuable to wait for the following reasons:

- The new MacBook Pros come with a GeForce 8600m GT Graphics card, is it not practical to think the new iMacs will come with that option? if not a better card?
- Leopard still is not out. If you wait it is likely you'll be able to get Leopard on your new machine without having to fork over another $129.00 for it.
- iMacs are definately due for a update and based on past history it will happen soon.
- Bigger, Better, Faster?... Why not wait?

Indeed. I've been waiting for a 20" and considered just getting one after WWDC, but there is always this feeling that I could have been using the same computer a year ago, back when it was much hotter stuff.
I bought a "new" 17" C2D 2.0 and added 3gigs of RAM to her....
I will patiently wait till I hear the announcement of updated iMacs. as soon as I do I will be first in line to pick up my totally maxed out 24" iMac!
white black or brushed... I really couldn't care less. I just crave the newest fastest iMac since I have had one of each since the original "Bondi" actually mine was a "ruby" and a "snow"....
I will be selling my 17" so if anyone wants a gently used still has the plastic on the "foot" and keyboard.....

I'm sure there will be a revision shortly after the iPhone release... however, the revision will be only a spec-update. Completely re-designed iMacs will come with Leopard, in my opinion... At MacWorld 2008 if not.

I reckon an iMac update will be in line with leopard being released. I would love to see something similar to that photo which is going around with the translucent screen and glassy keyboard. But somehow I think they'll go for a more plausible look!
But apple being apple, they will come up with something completely different to what people predict, an it'll still be stunningly beautiful!

And except for the fact that there is no technology currently to create that translucent look. You still have to put a processor, drive, and all the other innards in there, all of which would have to be much small for that machine to exist. Don't get me wrong, I love that rendition, but while it's great to drool over it, it's not realistic anytime soon.
