Glare and color differences between matte are the big reasons.

Ummm, if you're working on print then it's very difficult to match physical print to screen anyway. If you're working digitally the audience you're working to have a mixture of matte/glossy.

You get glare on any screen, yes glossy is more but you also get a more vivid picture which balances that out.

Nope.
They are fine.

I have one and do graphic design work in the Creative Suite with no problems.
A friend who has a white iMac knew from podcasts and reading online that the glossy screen would suck....until he used mine and saw no real glare and that it really was better than his 20" white iMac.

Also, LCDs have a glare. really they do. it is minimal and thus worse as you think there is no glare but there really is one. With a glossy screen, you see the glare and adjust so there is no glare.

Nobody seemed to complain about reflections on CRT screens or that thin black line that ran across Trinitron monitors.

People see what they want to see. If you have an inbuilt prejudice against glossy monitors, when you're sat in front of one you're going to actively look for all the reflections and get all wound up about them. If you don't have that prejudice you won't even notice and wonder what all the fuss is about.

I fall into the latter category. I learned graphic design on a 15" monitor. If you can handle that, you can handle anything.

Thanks for the comments.

The 24in does look spectacular, but when I looked at in the shop it was facing a window, doubling as a mirror for customers.

I'd be using it at home, so I can place it in a darker position.

If it's going at home, I'd really recommend it. Sometimes I think people make too much of a deal out of glossy vs. antiglare, but it really just comes down to personal preference. Colors and graphics look really amazing on the 24" but you may want to wait until they boost the specs. :)
