apple will not use arrandale for imacs. They will use lynnfield. If they do not use a quad core in their next imac it would be suicide for the imac.

Why? Lynnfields are much slower than Arrandales. Also Lynnfields are for desktops and Apple haven't used desktop parts in alu iMacs and they draw too much power (45W at least)

Interesting! And when could they use it?

Q1 2010, but Apple won't use them

They will not use Lynnfield because it is a desktop CPU and it is too hot for the iMac. There are cooler (65 W) Lynnfields coming at about the same time as Arrandale but evidently they are still too hot since Apple didn't use 65 W quad-core desktop Penryns.

As for quad-core, Apple didn't use quad-core, even mobile quad-core, in this revision of the iMacs, and the dual-core/quad-core division won't move much with Nehalem, so I don't expect quad-core next year either.

I'm hoping for an iMac hardware refresh sometime in Q1, 2010 - March would be perfect  since I'm just about to buy a MacBook Pro and need some months to save up for an iMac too. ;)

I'm guessing minor upgrades in August, being limited to video and memory. I can't see much more than that, but it seems to make sense to me. Newer nvidia GPUs, which are twice are fast as the current video options.

Yes, Mike, that makes absolutely sense, cause most iMacs today are bought for gaming (PC games). ;)

You are aware that lots of strides are being made to push work off on the GPU, right? Basically, having the GPU share some of the work the CPU does.

apparently those GPU's wont be used as they are not part of nvidias new chipset. When nvidia releases there new chipset is when we will see the new gpu's
