Apple customer relations and tech support were very responsive and helpful in every case. They were going to send me a 4th unit but I decided to get a refund since my order history was getting so long and was afraid it would complicate matters if the 4th one wasn't a charm!
Hey Ken S. I'm currently waiting on my replacement mac mini. I'm in the UK. After the replacement I'll be outside of the 14 days distance selling regulation that allows me to return the product for a refund for any reason. If the replacement mini is defective, will Apple be inclined to refund me? Did you have to do/say anything in particular for them to refund you after 3 faulty systems?

Pretty much every company I've ever dealt with has always insisted on repair or replacement only outside of 14 days.

Without a doubt, Apple is starting to slump on assembly standards. I noticed this with both my 17" iMac G5 w/iSight and brand new Intel Core Duo 20" iMac. In fact, when changing out my 20" iMac G5 with the new Intel iMac I got today I saw the build difference and it was very noticable.

My old iMac G5 looked much better build around the screen and with the enclosure in general. Apple really needs to get their act together in this area. They were good and now they are turning into a bad apple on it.

I actually had to exchange my 17" iMac out for a replacement because of all of its problems (dead pixels, broken latch on the case, scratches, etc).

With my new Intel iMac the only things I noticed were the casing where the screen meets the case is a little beveled out and a few scratches alongside the top. These are things I can live with though considering they are only noticeable when looking down on it and I'm always looking straight foward at it so unless I'm moving it, I won't notice.

Regardless, Apple needs to shape up and Steve Jobs need to get back the relentless perfectionism that typifies him and the company.

No, I didn't have to do anything special. I just had to let Apple know that I wanted a refund this time rather than a replacement. As for the 14-day policy, that only applies for a return for any reason. In the case the unit is deemed defective, you typically (in the US, that is) have the option of replacement or refund.

I noticed that too on all of my 20" iMacs -- the case is not flush with the LCD. While it's cosmetic, it certainly does not make one feel good about the product, especially one that showcases design.

I think you should be less anal, seriously. Put away the magnifying glass and just enjoy your computer. I don't know how a scratch can bother you so much, yet your atrocious spelling does not. You need to really rethink the areas which you demand perfection.

Well, thank you very much for that totally useless answer! As I wrote in the first thread english isn't my first language, so cut me some slack will ya'?

Secondly, it wasn't in any way small scrathes!! They we're all over the units!!

I'm sure that even without your thicklensed  glasses on you would have been able to see them!

I'm not anal, just don't wanna pay 1700 $ for something that's allready broken!

I've had my share of QC issues with my iMac as well. All three iMacs I went through had misaligned LCDs. My first one, in addition, had a scratch on the inside of case below the clear plastic.

Apple customer relations and tech support were very responsive and helpful in every case. They were going to send me a 4th unit but I decided to get a refund since my order history was getting so long and was afraid it would complicate matters if the 4th one wasn't a charm!

I'm hoping too that they're reviewing the return units and making improvements to their assembly process.

great to hear that I'm not the only one, and then again it kinda sucks that they have QC issues like that! I'm just hoping they get their act together soon, 'cause I really need a computer :(

I think you should stop whining. It's plastic.

EDIT: I don't think Apple is slipping, or any of that crap. But I do think they are getting more popular and are stretched a bit more thin on everything. Everyone wants everything as soon as it is revealed, and then they bitch about waiting. And then when they do get it, they are not happy. Gimme a break.

I don't know, it sounds like a very petty complaint to me.

I think what's going on here is a masked case of buyer's remorse.

"I need to return this iMac!"

"Why?"

"WELL, IF YOU LOOK AT IT FROM A HARD ANGLE... HERE LET ME GET MY FLASH LIGHT- AND MY MAGNIFYING GLASS... THERE!!! SEE THAT SCRATCH?!"

whining nope... I know it's plastic, and I have pretty much every hardware Apple has come out with, but as I wrote I don't wanna pay money for something that's broken allready! If you feel like spending money on something like that feel free  I was just asking if anybody else had similar experince with their new iMac because the apple representive told me they had more complaints every day about it.

I've had alot, and I do mean alot of different computers, and have never before had one with plastic that scratheble. And no you don't need a flashlight to see it, and yes they we're all over, and no it isen't buyers remorse, in Denmark we have a 14 days to return a product if you change your mind, no matter what the reason (you don't even have to have a reason).

Buyers remorse?! nope, why the hell would I change my iMac in three times, and all that waiting if I didn't want it? I would have just gotten my money back to begin with

In Denmark I don't need some stupid reason to get my money back, I can return without reason up until 14 days after the purchase. So nope, no buyers remorse, I'm sorry I didn't take pics of it, then you guys could have seen it.

And NO you don't need a flashlight to see scrathes all over the clear plastic. Sorry dude, if you haven't got anything constructive to add besides this crap, then stay out of the thread :D

I know you guys in here "live" Apple and I do love the machines I've had, but they to do make mistakes. And I've just been really unlucky with product from them lately..

Yup. The thing is, on my old iMac G5 (rev. A) the screen is completely flush with the LCD and that's the way it should be. The bottom line is: Apple is stepping back from their relentless perfectionism just a tad in favor of cheaper labor (and/or possible cheaper materials).

Yeah, and your point is? Plastic is used on million dollar cars. Are you saying it shouldn't be used properly because it's low on the toteum pole of materials?

As far as everyone bitching about having to wait and then not being happy when they get it, ever think that had to do with the fact we waited so long for something that wasn't perfect? If it was perfect, it would be worth the wait and we would have no complaints.

I'm not saying I'm complanining about my new Intel iMac because in no way am I. I just think it's reasonable to discuss some of its problems. That's not to say I'm rushing back to the store today to return it. Sooo, GimmeSlack12, go try and be the hotshot somewhere else.
