I gave you a reason why it’s not a nice solution, I don’t care what Apple shows. The fact that they do use the snowy mountain wallpaper pretty much exclusively for all screenshots that depict UI on their website, whereas they almost never show any bright ones with them, underpins my point: choosing a wallpaper is less about your personal preference and more about finding the right balance. There is always one aspect that screws up your choice of wallpaper. iOS 7/8/9 just sucks for wallpapers and they don’t include many wallpapers that go well together with the design, like how they envisioned that iOS 7/8/9 would look best. The snowy mountain is a really good one that works really well with all aspects of iOS 7. If they needed more space then there were other choices.
A new dock and more drop shadows would fix all of our issues. The lack of drop shadows makes all the icons run straight into the wallpaper and it makes it look like a busy piece of garbage. The dock covers too much of the wallpaper, I don't have much of an issue with the coloring being based on the wallpaper (I actually like that) it's just that it contributes to the busy-ness. The way that iOS 4-6 had a drop shadow above the dock that covered hardly any of the wallpaper was just perfect. Nothing really ever looked too busy. I don't want Apple to fully remove the dock altogether though, it would look weird with just some icons thrown across the bottom with nothing really "holding" them or differentiating them from the other icons.

Anyway, I quite like a lot of the new wallpapers. I just don't agree with the removal of so many older ones. The orange/blue gradient wallpaper was pretty good, as well as the snowy trees, ice forest, purple sky, blue/green wave, etc. I also kind of liked the brown circular shingles in iOS 7, as well as the dark green blades of grass or whatever. Oh well.

[Edit] I'm appalled by the gray feathers wallpaper. It's so blurry and pixelated!

When someone does a Reset, what is the wallpaper as of beta 5?

Awesome question - I'm interested in the answer to this as well!

To someone's point earlier about different lock screen and home screen wallpapers, it does look like Apple promoting this more. Their latest ads do show this in effect.

Finding wallpapers that work on iOS 7 and up has become very difficult. I don't mind the dock but dropshadows is very much needed.

The problem with choosing different wallpapers on lock screen and home screen for me is that it first fades to black and then to the wallpaper when unlocking which just looks weird. It didn't do this on iOS 6 and down and actually still doesn't if you unlock to an open app. Then it fades to the app instead of it first going black.

I would the like lock screen to just slide away offscreen like Notification Center. That would be a nice transition and actually make it feel like a lock over your phone.

I think it's a shame all the nice iOS 7 ones have gone, like the geometric pattern and the space scene which was the default in iOS 7. Don't really like any of the new ones.

I know I can download them, but it was easier with them just being there!

With the release of the iOS 9 B5/PB3 the green/blue wave wallpaper is no longer included. Removed by accident? Or does this mean that Apple is changing the proposed default iOS 9 wallpaper? I still see it being advertised all over the Apple iOS 9 page.
Apple always does it the same way. The first wallpaper they come out with when they announce the new iOS is never the default wallpaper when the new OS comes out.

That's what they did last year, and the year before that, and the year before that.

True, but last year the new wallpaper (purple space sky one) wasn't available until the new iPhones came out.

I'm pretty sure that iOS 5 was announced with the gray/blue water drops wallpaper and iOS 6 was announced with the blue ripple wallpaper. iOS 5 was released with the gray/blue water drops wallpaper and iOS 6 was released with the blue ripple wallpaper.

I don't remember what iOS 4 had, it seems like it had the gray/blue water drops wallpaper as well.

Is it true that black pixels don't use as much battery, (however minuscule) and that they could be a reason for the change?

If the iPhone and iPad had amoled screens like the Apple Watch, yes, but they don't. (Major reason why the watchOS is mostly black. To save as much battery as possible, since it's so small.) On amoled screens black pixels are basically off and not using power. (Each pixel has its own backlight and why it can do this instead of a backlight on the whole screen.)

That’s not the point. Why do they sort out fairly new and excellent wallpapers so quickly and leave some of the most boring ones in it? They still have many wallpapers with bright colours and white backgrounds, which look disgusting on the home screen where the icons are also bright and the thin text is barely readable. The snowy mountain was one of the best in recent years.

Is there really someone who thinks this looks good?

I think the flower ones are intended more for the lock screen. That's how they were used during the iPhone 6 introduction keynote.

Its kinda obvious some were designed for the lockscreen and some for the homescreen.

Because its the correct point.
Again, read the thread. iOS 7/8/9 doesn’t let you freely choose a wallpaper, because your choice is constrained by legibility and aesthetics and when Apple is promoting wallpapers that are only good as lock screen wallpapers, the point I was making about the loss of some really good wallpapers still stands.

Please read the entire thread, this point has been made and addressed already.

Maybe to you, but last time I checked we're all entitled to an opinion. I actually don't mind the new ones and in my opinion the new default is better than the beta 4 default which was too bright after a while. I almost always use one of my own pictures for the lock screen, but it's nice of Apple to include some that are best used on the lock screen.

it's already busy ...so you want to add yet another element to it??
